Norfolk went into their remaining match, home to Sussex, knowing that a win would secure promotion and duly delivered.  Yet again the singles were hard fought affairs, with Andrew Devaney this time losing on a champions tie break, 6-4, 4-6, 0-1 and Gary Keens coming through 6-2, 4-6, 1-0, winning the champions tiebreak 13-11.  The doubles matches were a bit more straightforward with Stuart Hunter & Mark Nicholls retaining their unbeaten record by winning 6-2, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-3 respectively and Devaney and Keens winning 6-2, 7-5. U12 County Cup Report – U12 County Cup – 16th/ 17th September 2023. Last weekend Norfolk U12 boys competed in division 2a their annual county cup. The boys were playing at a home venue of Easton College on the clay courts. U12 Captains were Ben COllingwood and Alex Watkinson  The counties in group 2a were; Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Bedfordshire. After a good run at Lionel Cox event back in April the boys were keen to build on their momentum as most will be moving up to U14s age group in the new year. Match report – away v Avon – Sept 16th 2023 The men’s over 60s tennis team played their final match of the season away against Avon at the weekend. For good reason Avon have topped the table in this group, adding a 5-0 win to their impressive list of wins against all the other teams. Although the scoreline was quite one-sided, each match was very competitive and drawn out. Girls U12 County Cup – Whitney, Oxfordshire 16th & 17th September The girls team of Amelia(1), Zoe(2), Jemima(3) and Christine (4 & her debut) set off to Oxfordshire to compete against Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Oxfordshire, and Sussex. An opening day blessed with blue skies and sunshine saw us ending the morning 1-3 down to Oxfordshire, a close 3 set loss for Zoe, but Amelia giving us hope in the doubles by winning her singles. Sunday 10th September, one of the hottest days of the year, saw tennis balls flying speedily across nets at Gorleston Tennis Club in Orde Avenue as finals were played in our annual Club Championship. The event was well attended by members, friends and family plus Mike Walker, the President of the Norfolk LTA and Hilary Kerrison past Championship winner, coach and supporter of GLTC. Riya has enjoyed a great success over the Summer 2023 Tennis tournaments winning 6 Grade-3 tournaments and being runner-up or third in another 3. After a tough start to the summer in Grade-2 tournament, Riya worked tirelessly on her Tennis with her Coach Ben Collingwood and pro-hitter Scott Whiting with remarkable improvements in her groundstrokes and serves.
