Grand County Search and Rescue (GCSAR) would like to thank The Fraser Valley Lions Club FRVLC for their recent grant. This grant will be used towards purchasing avalanche response, rescue tools and winter related rescue items that are used for both responder safety and rescue operations. GCSAR is an all-volunteer organization available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year with a fully qualified team of trained personnel to deal with any search or rescue within the Grand County area.   Grand County Search and Rescue snowshoes to two stranded snowmobilers caught in downed trees in Woods Landing outside Winter Park.   Grand County Search and Rescue extricated two snowmobilers from the Corona Trail system on Sunday after they got stuck in downed trees. Around 2:30 p.m., search and rescue, along with the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, the Grand County Advanced Backcountry Snowmobile Team and the US Forest Service, responded to the Woods Landing area outside Winter Park. Stella’s story isn’t over yet, join us for the 2022 Stella Gives Back summer concert benefiting Grand County Search and Rescue!  The benefit concert will be called ‘Stella Gives Back’ in honor of the dog Stella who was rescued by Grand County Search and Rescue volunteers last fall. A unexpected early snowstorm hit two brothers on a backcountry trip, which turned into two separate rescues – one for them and one for Stella the dog. Stella The Dog out on the trail in Jackson County, Colorado. MISSION UPDATE: (with a positive pup outcome!) On Sept 20, eleven members of GCSAR arrived in Jackson county to provide mutual aid to locate and extract two subjects in the backcountry who had lost the trail due to snow and inclement weather. After attempting helicopter rescue, which proved impossible due to weather, the team hiked 14 miles to locate and escort subjects out of the backcountry. This is the 3rd Annual Paul Robertson Memorial Golf Tournament to benefit Grand County Search and Rescue. Paul Robertson was a member of GCSAR for 8 years, working his way up to Field Director. He was passionate about the job, his team and his missions. It is an extremely difficult task at times, and proper equipment is key for successful outcomes. Paul spoke about the small budget they had to work with, and often the team members had to purchase their own equipment and pay to attend their training sessions.
