Thirty-five years ago, was the beginning of the traditional recognition of a Waterbury Resident as the Puerto Rican Mayor of the Day. However, the pride and enthusiasm of maintaining this long tradition remains intact. Therefore Ms. Nancy Acevedo-Gordils was honored on Friday, July 22, 2022, as the Puerto Rican Mayor for the Day at the annual Puerto Rican Flag-Raising Ceremony at City Hall. During the pandemic, seniors experienced concerns about disruptions to their daily routines and concerns that isolation would exacerbate existing mental health conditions. That is why La Casa Bienvenida continues to offer services to seniors online even though its doors are closed until a safe environment can be provided. During this week, a group from La Casa Bienvenida surprised all its members with a lunch. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And the Hispanic Coalition joined today, Thursday, October 21, in celebration of the "Pink Out Day" of the Saint Mary Hospital Foundation to raise awareness about breast cancer. The Hispanic Coalition, the RIBA Aspira Career Academy, and the Industrial Training and Management Institute (IMTI) wore a pink Saint Mary's Hospital Foundation T-shirt to raise awareness and funds for the Breast Detection Fund. Time to get ready for the back to school season. Part of the preparation is to start a morning schedule, eat a healthy breakfast, make dedicated TV-free time, stick to a bedtime routine, read every day, and stock up on school supplies. This year, The Hispanic Coalition of Greater Waterbury prepared three back to school events.
