New books to look out for… Hera by Jennifer Saint

I looooove a myth retelling, and one of my favourite writers giving a voice to the women of Greek mythology is Jennifer Saint. I’ve read and really enjoyed her previous books – Ariadne, Elecktra, and Atalanta, so when I heard Hera was coming out it went right to the top of my tbr. I’m excited to read Saint’s take on Hera – obviously she pops up in so many of the myths, but to be honest I don’t really know that much about her! Check out the blurb from the publisher below. When Hera, immortal goddess and daughter of the ancient Titan Cronus, helps her brother Zeus to overthrow their tyrannical f ..read more

New books to look out for… Psykhe by Kate Forsyth

Yes – I did just feature Kate Forsyth here on a ‘waiting for Wednesday’ post a few weeks ago, but she is such a favourite and also happens to have two new books coming out in close succession. Kate Forsyth’s Long-Lost Fairytales has now hit shelves, and up next is Psykhe, Kates retelling of the Greek Myth of Psyche and Eros. Here is the synopsis from the publisher’s website: Psykhe has always been different. Fair as Venus, the goddess of love, and with the hard-won ability to save the lives of those of mortal blood, she is both shunned and revered. When she unwittingly provokes Venus, she and ..read more

I’ve been catching up on some booktube today and one of the videos I really enjoyed was the Quarter Year Crisis tag video Lauren shared on her channel Lauren and the Books. It’s a little check in about how the reading year is going, now that the calendar has clicked over to April (which means we are a quarter of the way through the year already!). I’ve popped the questions and my answers below. 1. How many books have you read so far this year? I am terrible at tracking my reading these days but have been trying to make more of an effort to log everything on The StoryGraph this year. If you hav ..read more

New books to look out for… Art Hour at the Duchess Hotel

I’m back this Wednesday with another upcoming release that I can’t wait to get my eyes on! This time it’s Sophie Green’s new novel, Art Hour at the Duchess Hotel. Like Kate Forsyth, who I was raving about last week, Sophie Green is an auto-buy author for me and I have loved all of her novels so far. I really like the way she continues to put authentic female characters in situations where their relationships feel organic despite their differences. This latest story is set around a group painting together – having taken watercolour classes myself it feels right up my alley! Here’s the synopsis ..read more

It has been the looooongest time since I did a proper book mail share here, which is remiss of me since I’ve really been treated to some WONDERFUL books over the past little while. So, here is a little stack of some recent-ish additions to my shelves, kindly sent to me by the relevant publishers. Where Sleeping Girls Lie by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé This was a mistake, the voice in her head whispered. New books to look out for… Kate Forsyth’s Long-Lost Fairytales

If you’ve been around for a while you might know that I adore Kate Forsyth’s writing. She is one of my most favourite authors and I love the way she tells stories, whether in a traditional fairytale sort of way or by deconstructing age-old tales and myths and pulling the themes into different settings. Given this, any time she has a new book on the horizon it goes straight onto my “can’t wait list” and today I’m talking about her next release; Kate Forsyth’s Long-Lost Fairytales, which will hit shelves in the first week of April. Here’s the blurb from the publisher’s webpage: Fairy tales are a ..read more

Look, I know it’s such a cliche, but the first few months of 2024 have really flown past. I haven’t shared a chatty post for a while, so I thought I’d take the chance to share a bit of what’s been happening here while I spend my Sunday evening in front of some truly terrible reality tv. One of the things that has been keeping me busy at the start of the year, not just this year but over the past few, is my role as a judge for the Aurealis Awards. I think this was my fourth year being part of the judging team, and I absolutely love it. I’ve judged a different category each year so far but one t ..read more

I don’t know how they do it but Aussie authors just keep coming with the amazing books, blowing up my tbr list before they even hit the shelves and I wanted to start showcasing some of the titles I’m most excited for here on my blog. I used to join in sometimes with a fun meme called “can’t wait Wednesday”, which is hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings. In fact, I have featured today’s author in a can’t wait Wednesday post before – way back at the start of 2020, when we were waiting for her second novel, Bottlebrush Creek. It is of course one of my absolute favourite rural romance writers, Maya ..read more

Currently reading:: The Briar Book of the Dead by A.G. Slatter

I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a bit of a fangirl for A. G. Slatter‘s writing – it’s just so gothic and creepy and fantastic in exactly the way that I love. I’ve reviewed her previous two novels here (All the Murmuring Bones) and here (The Path of Thorns) – and you’ll see if you follow the links that I absolutely adored both. Obviously I was thrilled to discover there was a third book on the way, set in this same world (and even more when I spotted on Slatter’s website that number 4 is in the works too!). The Briar Book of the Dead is one of my most anticipated books of 2024, and I’m super ..read more
