Anna? Check [Hearts and Roses London]

I adore checks, tartans, and plaids. My brain loves visual order and symmetry, as well as things that match–basically most things that just make immediate visual sense. In that way, the fact that a checked print fabric can include multiple colours, whether cohesive or clashing, without threatening to register as ‘too busy’ makes it a soothing way to layer colour in the winter months especially, when it’s very easy to dip only into more muted tones now that one’s tropical prints and more exuberant summer pieces have been safely packed away for the year. A check print can still be bold when it p ..read more

Chic Lil Houndstooth [Miss Candyfloss]

It’s my favourite time of the year—Miss Candyfloss have released a new Autumn/Winter line! I love seeing what they produce year round, but there’s something extra special to me about their cold weather lines. They mix and match with so many vintage design elements that it produces items that are complex and elegant in a way that makes it impossible not to go ‘oh, that’s a Miss Candyfloss piece!’ when you see one. They’re experts at playing with contrasting textures, patterns and colours, as well as structural design features like peplums, asymmetric necklines, even removable bows and scarves ..read more

Pretty Little Serpente [Charlie Stone Shoes]
Miss Amy May

The green Serpente flats by Charlie Stone Shoes were originally launched back in the summer of 2021 as part of their Magic of Porto collection, a line of four shoes designed to represent the four houses of a certain wizarding school, with inspiration taken from the art nouveau architectural elements found in the Portuguese city of Porto. At the time I loved the Serpente design and was tempted to buy myself a pair, but I got in my head about how likely I was to wear them often considering I already owned a pair of emerald green flats that I didn’t wear much. (Readers: said flats didn’t fit me c ..read more

Dark Dorian [Charlie stone]

Every season I look forward to seeing what Charlie Stone Shoes release, as their glamorous flats are always as beautiful as they are practical. For this autumn/winter season their line is being proclaimed as their Dark Academia Era, an ode to that much loved aesthetic you’ve no doubt spotted all over social media the past couple years. According to Charlie Stone, this line is “inspired by the pull of old books, gothic chateaus, creaky staircases that wind along endless bookshelves and the promise of adventure between the pages of our favourite stories.” The novel The Picture of Dorian Grey by ..read more

My Sewing Journey [Projects 1-7]

I’ve been learning to sew for 4 months now. Throughout my adult life most of my hyper fixation hobbies have only lasted 3-6 months (word up, knitting and bedazzling!) with blogging as the only long term exception. Like, BIG EXCEPTION. Like, it’s been almost 10 years. And with that in mind, I’m fully aware that sewing posts probably aren’t going to be something all of my readers are interested in, which is totally fine. But I’m really enjoying this newfound and constantly improving skill I’m attempting to acquire, and historically I’ve always been able to share the things I’m excited about wit ..read more

Beauty Bakerie Matte Lip Whip Review + Swatches
Miss Amy May

Beauty Bakerie is, in their own words, a cosmetics company ‘on a mission to spread the spirit of kindness and sweetness.’ A black owned company founded and led by breast cancer survivor Cashmere Nicole, their products are cruelty-free, vegan-friendly and gluten-free, and all are undeniably adorable in their bakery inspired packaging. I have no concept of how long their Lip Whips have been around, but over the past year I’ve seen several of my favourite pinups mention on social media that these are one of their favourite lip products, so I was excited to give them a try. The matte version appe ..read more

A Little Matching Set [Miss Candyfloss]
Miss Amy May

Miss Candyfloss do many things incredibly well, one of which is make gorgeous matching sets that will fulfil all your vintage dreams. I can’t think of any other vintage-inspired company which regularly makes combination sets that are designed to be worn together, whether that be a jacket and dress, skirt and top, or even jackets that are made to pair with more than one of their items, such as one of their jumpsuits AND one of their dresses. It’s the reverse of one of their other unique things they do well and often—make dresses that look like skirt suits, but are in fact just dresses. Today, w ..read more

The Perfect Jacket [Miss Candyfloss]

A well fitted suit jacket that hugs one’s curves is one of those items from mid-century fashion that I think would work in most every modern woman’s wardrobe, and yet somehow they rarely feature. For me, layering a smart, sleek jacket over a dress or skirt is an instant way to look chic and sophisticated, evoking that old school glamour most people love yet few people feel is achievable. Well, it is, and easily so with one of Miss Candyfloss’s signature blazers, like this stunning Liza-Juniper! Lydia, You Minx [Wax Poetic Clothing]

I have wanted one of Wax Poetic’s Lydia gowns for aaaages. At this point, I can’t even remember which colourway came first, I simply know that I completely fell for the sheer leopard print version at some point during the chaotic full throes of the pandemic. By the time I told myself I could justify buying it as a little treat it was sadly sold out in my size. I’ve asked a couple times since then whether the leopard would be restocked and was told it would be, but so far I haven’t heard any rumblings on whether that still holds true. And y’all, I am not a patient person. So much so that despit ..read more

Shana For Spring [Collectif]

I’ve been blogging for 9 years now, so I think I’ve reached the point where I’ve wrung as many jokes and intros out of the famous ‘Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking’ line from The Devil Wears Prada. Like florals (according to Miranda Priestly, that is,) there’s only so many ways you can work it in before it gets tired and expected. But despite that, you know, I still really like florals. I think it’s one of the loveliest parts of spring–not just watching the actual flowers begin to bloom out in the world, but going into my clothing storage to bring my florals back out into my closet, packing ..read more
