At some point you stop and look in the mirror and ask, "What the f am I doing?" Your life is OK, but you were expecting it to be great. As a globetrotting director and performer in my twenties, I was living my dream. Traveling and working in a field that I loved so much it never felt like work. Then motherhood hit and a slew of toxic relationships pulled me down from my cloud. I assumed that this was just a phase that I needed to go through and at some point, I would regain my former excitement for living. But the mountain of obstacles increased year after year. My external circumstances were ..read more

We trust science, the professionals in white coats, the TED talk speakers, those with power and influence. Rightfully so. What they believe can be proven within the parameters of their field. They can categorize, define and illuminate with swank. But will they listen to your heart? Consider others whose power is undeniable in realms outside of academia, business and finance? Did Jesus, Hadey Lamar, Bill Gates, or Mother Teresa have a PhD? No. But they all influenced the world with their dedicated imagination, insights and unique talents in an enduring way. I'm more impressed by this type of in ..read more

It is a ridiculous stretch trying to balance one's life in this chaotic society. For those of us who have the required self-discipline, the path is a little less daunting. But for those of us who always seem to be scrambling to keep up with ourselves, our options are less obvious. The word mindfulness has replaced the “peace, love” mantra of the 1970s. It’s something we all want but its’ actualization is another matter. I suggest an alternative approach. It’s so simple and makes pragmatic sense. I call it intermittent enlightenment. Enlightenment is not something reserved for yogis floating ab ..read more

We already know that stress is part of life, so it should not be a surprise. If you know a hurricane is coming, you buy water and toilet paper and board up your windows before it hits. It seems there is a hard line between those who can and those who can't meditate. The classification deems you either restless or peaceful. Understandable, but not true. Inner peace isn't something that requires uncomfortable postures, a state of no mind or deliberate time out of your busy day. Inner peace is a huge topic. "Many paths lead to Rome." Perhaps what you really need or a more aware, mature and healthy relationship with yourself. Hmm? Now that's a more tangible starting point. The average American is such an over achiever they always seem to be short of time so it's no wonder medit ..read more

Is controlling your internal monologue easy? No. Most of the time we aren't even aware of when it occurs. You want to be more mindful but you are a busy professional, a multitasker, have too many responsibilities that make balancing your life difficult. Are you sick of ideas that are hard to implement and experience little success with? I was stuck also, so, I created my own map. I was such an OCD over thinker. I drove myself crazy, didn't sleep well, couldn't meditate and then slandered myself unconsciously, ALL THE TIME. Although I performed like a superstar and got the job done, in my own m ..read more
