Last month Robert had the opportunity to join the Certified Port Educator course held by Port’s official regulator, the Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e do Porto in Porto city and the Douro Valley. A full itinerary of theory and tasting classes were held at the Institute’s offices, followed by a visit to Grahams wonderful Port lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia. A quick trip was then made to the Douro Valley where educators visited producers Alves de Sousa and Quinta do Tedo. We are delighted to offer a new venue on the edge of Florence to our students. Starting with WSET Level 3 Wines in November we will be hosting courses at the beautiful Ruffino Poggio Casciano estate at Bagno a Ripoli on the outskirts of Firenze. A busy start to 2019 has seen Wine Academy Italia run courses from Puglia in the south of Italy to Piemonte in the north and many in between. Last week we finished our first WSET Level 2 at the Bersano Winery in Nizza Monferrato, a venue to which we will return for Level’s 2 and 3 later in the year. 2021 has, so far, been a frustrating year. Covid continues to cause much pain and suffering across the world. We have on several occasions hoped to restart classroom courses only to be blocked from doing so. Finally, there does appear to be optimism that the end of April or early May could see some restrictions being lifted. Socially distanced in person courses might then be possible. Source ..read more

2020 has been a challenging year for everybody, the pandemic has caused enormous human and financial damage across the world. For much of the year we have been unable to run in person classes and exams, this has unfortunately led to disruption for some students. We were delighted to get back in the classroom last week for WSET Level 2 at Casa Chianti Classico, 108 days since we’d been able to teach in person. Online course are highly effective, particularly if you cannot attend in person courses, but its great to be face to face again.
