Hey there skaters, Mel here. This is easily one of the most exciting pieces of news! I'm excited and anxious to know what you all think! Isn't it amazing how roller skating can build your confidence to do things you never knew you were capable of? I never expected to travel the world with roller skates. I never expected to have a team of coaches. I never expected to see hundreds of people each month attend skate sessions. I never expected to be a skate shop owner. I never expected to become an award-winning business or have people from around the world seek out Roller Girl Gang! Recently, I ..read more

Roller Dance for All
Roller Girl Gang Blog

by Mel @troubleon8wheels I've spoken to a lot of people about their roller skating goals and many of them are interested in roller dance. "It looks like so much fun." "It's so cool!" "I love it when people are dancing together in the middle." "I wish I could do that and join in." You know you can... Roller dance is dancing - on roller skates. It is a form of self expression, there is no 'right' or 'wrong' way to do this - you are just moving in a way that feels good for you. I know you also feel inhibited to join in, because I've been there too, standing at the sidelines and looking in. What ..read more

Self-Care Skating

We've spoken to lots of folks who quite rightly view their roller skate time as their commitment to their self-care. It is through this lens that we aim to support as many people as possible to discover the wonderful world of roller skating. Our self-care routine is highly personal - what works for one person will not be exactly right for someone else. The same is true for our skating. We will want and need different things from our roller skating, based on other factors in our lives, including family needs, work demands maybe even the time of the year. Our approach to structured classes is b ..read more

by Mel @troubleon8wheels Did you skate as a kid and it's been a decade, or two, or three, since you last put skates on? Did you skate last week and felt fine, but when you went to put them back on, your legs went to jelly and your body forgot what to do? Did you feel generally fine on your skates (inside) but then you went to a new space and found yourself uncontrollably falling over? If you answered YES to any of these - keep reading! (Also think about booking onto the Higher Skate of Mind Confidence Coaching workshop happening monthly online now - the video will be available soon for Delu ..read more

We love a radical decision - starting to roller skate as an adult absolutely feels like that! Our shop gang love to get to know you and hear your story about what has finally made you feel like now is your time. Over the hundreds of skate fittings we've done in the few years our shop has been open (and we've been allowed to have you in it!) the stories you have shared with us have been incredibly vulnerable and humbling. We want to offer our shop exclusively for private skate fittings on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and will open our shop just for you. We will continue to reply to emails, pack and ..read more

What's coming up in February? More dancing!

Where there is dancing, there must be tunes! On our Spotify channel, we have a number of playlists categorised into various themes and speeds. The one below is also sorted into speed from fastest to slowest bpm (beats per minute). We find these songs a great speed to work on rhythm roller dance, especially while you are getting used to new moves. Did you know we taught roller dance courses in 2017, weekly roller dance classes in 2018-2019 and again in 2021-2022. Our roller dance class is now monthly on the final Sunday of the month, with a good smattering of dance just added to every Friday Ni ..read more

"I would love to attend a Roller Girl Gang session, but you're so far away!" "This sounds exactly like what I need to feel confident about my roller skating, I just can't get there." "I found your sessions online, then realised I live about 100 miles away :0 " We get lots of messages from folks who tell us they would love to attend our sessions, but we are sadly too far away. We have also seen lots of communities spring up over the last couple of years who share the same values as we do. We know how hard it is to provide consistent roller skating! We are genuinely impressed at everything you ..read more
