Ragdoll Colors & Patterns How To Discuss Ragdoll Colors & Patterns If you’ve spent any time googling ragdoll cats, you know the look is distinct. Ragdoll cat colors are unique for their presentation. Ragdolls have darker extremities creating a lovely contrast between ear and face, tail and body.  “I don’t know what color it is, but it’s really dark on the face and I don’t like that. I am looking to find a kitten with a pink nose.” “I’m trying to find a gray ragdoll kitten but the nose is still sorta pink?”  “What color is the ragdoll kitten with the white feet and a mark on ..read more

What is the best food for a Ragdoll Cat? The question about what to feed a ragdoll kitten is probably the most FAQ we receive. Our Masterpiece families are looking to provide a long, quality life for their new family member so it’s natural to want to give them the best. All the claims can be complicated and overwhelming, too. Grain-free Cat Food Hairball Control Cat Food Premium Protein Cat Food All Natural, Limited Ingredient Cat Food All of these are great on their own, but is a kitten kibble grain-free, but potato-heavy? If a food has the wrong consistency (form), it won’t matter that the c ..read more

Dear Diary

Calvin & Hobbes were right. The days are just packed. Today, I rushed Sylvia to the vet for an exam, and ultimately, emergency surgery. Thank God she became ill on a weekday. And thank Dr. Molitor for keeping her alive. She was anemic from not eating and we weren’t sure if she’d even make it through the exploratory surgery. Her uterus has twisted 3 times (Uterine torsion) so he removed her lady parts. Now I can find the perfect family for her to live happily ever after as a retired breeder. Jack didn’t go to work today so he graciously cleaned Mr. Bennett’s playpen where her kittens (or sh ..read more

I never thought I’d grow up to have a favorite cat litter. Cat Daddy, Eric Boatwright Seriously, we were all working in the cattery late in the evening: scooping, dumping, collecting, feeding, medicating, scrubbing. Eric walked around holding his small, spent-litter receptacle. Sarah was doing laundry, Jack checking the water fountains. I was studying a litter of kittens for any sign of illness and I hear him make this declaration. From this comment, we know we are now specialists. We’ve come to some conclusions on products and best practices for their use. Note: We are not amazon affiliate ..read more

Breed Standards and Masterpiece Aspirations Head Shape In the modified wedge head shape of the Ragdoll, you want to see gentle flowing lines, with the muzzle blending nicely into the rest of the head which creates the wedge appearance– no sharpness or squareness to the lines of the head. No one feature should stand out in size compared to the other features of the head. Every trait on the head should blend easily with each other. I’m a layperson. I’m not a trained veterinarian. I’m not even a vet technician. I am a breeder and a reader. I practice basic medicine in a cattery: subcutaneous fluids, antibiotics, topical antimicrobials, vaccines & flea treatment. I am no expert, and still I maintained a stubborn opinion about ESN –early spay/neuter. My fears about altering a kitten persisted despite the multitude of veterinarians who have successfully altered a kitten before the age of four months. I worried the kittens would not develop appropriately after the surgery. I worried they’d pass away under the anesthesia ..read more

It’s time to register your ragdoll kitten. The process can seem a bit intimidating and to be honest, TICA has not always had the most streamlined process, but the TICA Feline Management System (TFMS) is vastly better than the old system. And their customer service is cheerfully available. If you get stuck, you can give them a call directly at (956) 428 – 8046. What you’ll need TICA Breeder Slip – from your breeder A valid email address A credit card or PayPal account 15 minutes Once you have all of these, you can make the adoption official. It only takes about 15 minutes & $10 to comple ..read more

Adopting a purebred ragdoll can feel like a chore. And you’re right. There can be minor  hurdles to finding your dream kitty. You may think that securing a place on the waitlist is the way you want to go. It can be a great option for ensuring you can take home a ragdoll kitten from the breeder of your choice. But there are reasons you may NOT want to. You need flexibility to shop around. You prefer the flexibility of continuing to search for your ragdoll kitten. If your deposit/commitment is tied up with a breeder, will you feel restricted? Maybe you want to be able to check with other b ..read more

All the claims… Grain-free! Hairball Control! Premium Protein! All Natural! The question about what to feed a ragdoll cat is probably the most FAQ I receive. Our Masterpiece families are looking to provide a long, quality life for their new family member so it’s natural to want to give them the best. Ragdolls are generally a hearty breed.  There is one concern we hear about fairly regularly – obesity. Because they are not particularly active compared to other breeds and they are large-boned cats, they may put on extra weight as they begin to enter their senior years. As we know, obesity ..read more
