REVIEW | Savageland – Savageland II
Raw Side Hip Hop

In case you’ve been sleeping and haven’t heard of the juggernaut that is Savageland (comprising Reckonize Real, Weapon E.S.P. and Ghost of the Machine), allow me to give you the 4-1-1. Savageland is an underground hip hop supergroup whose sole purpose is to deliver the highest quality hip hop ever, and to push their own boundaries of talent while giving hip hop heads music that is robust, meaty and has huge replay value. That’s it in a nutshell – but to simplify it as such would be disrespectful. However, on the back of their first self-titled album in 2020, the trio are finally back with the ..read more

Raw Side Hip Hop

Abyss showcases his ‘best of both worlds’ talent as he spits all over his own production on ‘The Shining‘. This joint is gritty, delivering a nefarious score that provides Abyss and Tragedy Khadafi the proper audio footing to launch their ominous bars. To round out this joint, we get some kick ass scratches from DJ Slipwax, who cuts it up to perfection. Get this track into your rotation now ..read more

REVIEW | The Bad Seed presents: 6th Man Entertainment – ‘Everything Means Nothing, Vol. 2′
Raw Side Hip Hop
by Brutus Maximus
1w ago
Let’s preface this review by telling people that we are DAMN LUCKY this project didn’t just disappear into the ether due to lack of support, funds etc. You may not like to talk about it, but we’re starting this off by keeping it a hunnid. Support the artists (and writers!) that help bring dope hip hop to the culture. None of this is free, but as Arrested Development told us “two dollars means a snack to me, but it means a big deal to you” so every little bit you can give back to the culture – it doubles and triples and makes those waves ripple. Thankfully, the hip hop community rallied and yo ..read more

BANGER | Nas x DJ Premier – Define My Name
Raw Side Hip Hop
by Brutus Maximus
1w ago
Nas teams up with DJ Premier to drop ‘Define My Name‘ which is apparently the first single of an upcoming album from the iconic hip hop pairing. Nas has continued his resurgence over the last few years, his collaborations with Hit Boy bringing him back into the frame and his work ethic leaving others from his era in the bleachers. Saying that, the bars on this latest track, may be sharper than nearly anything he’s dropped over the last few years – he’s speaking honestly, his flow is refreshed and he sounds hungry. Interesting for someone who really has nothing left to prove. DJ Premier brings ..read more

REVIEW | Q-Unique – Royal Blood
Raw Side Hip Hop
by Brutus Maximus
3w ago
‘Royal Blood‘ is the latest offering from Q-Unique and it’s one hell of a hip hop project. Q’s fifth solo album is a seven track heat rock, solely produced by Jake Palumbo and without a single feature. Q holds down a true solo project spitting as aggressively as he always does, while DJ Presto One brings his skills on the wheels to make the samples and scratches sing. It may only clock in around 20 odd minutes, but in the modern musical landscape, this is where it needs to be. And this is a prime example of quality over quantity. From the jump we get treated to some really dope boom bap produ ..read more

Hot on the heels of ‘War Calls‘, Savageland have wasted no time in bringing yet another hardbody, hip hop banger in ‘Cadavers‘ to the forefront. Featuring Lord Goat, this track is one hell of a ride bringing together razor sharp lyrical prowess and that rugged, hardcore, bang you in the head hip hop. There is no messing around, this joint is CRAZY and if this (along with War Calls) is what we can expect from Savageland II, then it’s going to be well worth the wait! Check the track below and get ready to be blown away ..read more

BANGER | Donson the Wise – ‘The Weatherman’ (prod. FiveEight Fever)
Raw Side Hip Hop
by Brutus Maximus

Donson the Wise teams up with FiveEight Fever to deliver this anthem ‘The Weatherman‘. The score is suitably grimy, plenty of menacing undertones infiltrating the speakers, while Don gets busy on the mic with his gruff and rugged flow riding the beat perfectly, speaking his nefarious tales. So many elements of this track are done well, so it’s hard to pinpoint just what draws you in, but whatever catches your ear, there is no doubt this one is going to be in your rotation for a minute! Check out the joint below and get ready for the gritty, grimy ride ..read more

Terror Van Poo and Bernadette Price spits vicious verbals over some grimy Vinny Idol production for ‘Smoke To It‘. This joint is dark and moody, and Terror spits measured, menacing bars that pierce your speakers with intent. Bernadette Price gets busy with her bars too, working into her verse nicely and giving heads something to consider! Check it out below and tell us if you’re vibing with it ..read more

REVIEW | Eddie Kaine x Big Ghost Ltd – ‘Last Exit To Crooklyn’
Raw Side Hip Hop
by Brutus Maximus
1M ago
Eddie Kaine is back with a mature, authentic hip hop record in the form of the Big Ghost Ltd produced ‘Last Exit To Crooklyn‘. This is the 6th full length project from the Brooklyn emcee, who has been on the radar of hip hop head for the better part of the last decade, and this joint is a return to the formula that made ‘A Tree Grows In Brooklyn‘ such a successful debut. Big Ghost Ltd mixes things up a bit on the soundtrack, keeping that boom bap undertone, but dispersing a range of soul, jazz and minimalist music throughout the dusty drum tracks. Eddie is right back in the pocket, with intro ..read more
