From Psychotherapy to Neuropsychology I’ve always had a passion for helping others. My career in mental health started with a strong focus on psychotherapy. However, when I encountered clients who didn’t respond to traditional therapy, my curiosity drove me deeper into the field of neuropsychology and neurofeedback for better mental health. My curiosity began when I began working with individuals who were active duty service members. I used all of the evidence based treatments such as EMDR, mindfulness, CBT, etc but at times no matter how much people were able to process some stayed in a const ..read more

I had the chance to go to a neurofeedback conference a couple of weeks ago and saw many presentations that inspired me. I got into the field of neurofeedback as a result of wanting to help people feel better. I often find that as people feel better, they are able to engage in psychotherapy in a different way that helps them to gain insight and achieve their goals. My passion for neurofeedback has remained strong as I work with people and see them continue to regain their lives back. As people are able to reduce symptoms related to anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, chron ..read more

Enjoying Quiet Moments

Many of us find ourselves feeling rushed with the constant demands that seem impossible to fulfill. Many times it seems difficult to be able to find those quiet moments in which our mind can rest. I often find myself observing my dog in the mornings when I take her out. Dogs are so driven by their senses and I find it fascinating to see all the things that she enjoys taking notice of. The other day she stopped to smell almost every leaf on just one plant. I was so curious as to what she could smell that held her attention. As I watch her curiously in the mornings, I often find myself contempla ..read more

As a child, I remember enjoying taking electronic toys apart and putting them back together. I was so curious as to what was underneath the plastic covers and how things worked. When I was in graduate school, my focus was to help those who had struggled with trauma. However, during my coursework, I became interested in testing, neurofeedback, and neuropsychology. What I love about neuropsychological testing is the ability to help people really understand what they are experiencing, so they can achieve the success they desire. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to h ..read more

Last week was Mental Health Awareness Week. I really like the theme that was chosen this year “I am Stigma Free.” Often times I hear people express wanting to be understood by others, with worrying about how others may perceive their symptoms or diagnosis. They do not want to be seen as just being someone who is depressed or anxious, as someone who has a brain injury or PTSD, as someone who is autistic or has a developmental disability. Diagnosis means so many things to different people. As human beings we like to categorize things so that they have meaning to us. It is how we describe co ..read more
