The Becoming series started in 2019. We wanted to hear from women in different walks of life and how they were approaching creativity, career goals, and more–mostly the WHY and HOW beneath it all. It’s been amazing to conduct these interviews and get a “behind the scenes” look at so many inspirational women. You can see them all here. I’m thrilled to share an interview with artist Mika Rane. Mika is a new friend of mine who oozes creativity in every pore. She moved to Provo a couple of years ago from Portland and arrived with a infectious energy. I’ve been lucky to get to know her th ..read more

Why I only wear dresses and where I buy them
The House That Lars Built

A few years ago I wrote a post called “How to identify your style” and wrote all about the mood boards I created for myself that help me keep my style narrowed and focused. It helped me to form some thoughts about my personal style that had only been stuck inside my head for ages. Since then I’ve had a couple of babies, been diagnosed with some thyroid stuff that and haven’t lost much baby weight because of it. Through it all, I’ve continued to think about why I dress the way I do and turns out, which is pretty much exclusively dresses. I’ve gotten some questions about it over the years so I d ..read more

When we moved to Utah about ten years ago now, I was firmly in the “there’s no great road trips in this state” camp. Hahahhaa! I’m laughing because anyone who is outdoorsy is probably gasping. I KNOW! I grew up in a picturesque beach town in Southern California where we had access to some of the best scenery and culture in the world. Then after moving to the East Coast, we could go anywhere within 4 hours and be entrenched in amazing history and charming towns. It’s taken me awhile to accept my fate–that is, that Utah is home to 5 national parks and 46 state parks, aka gorgeous natural scenery ..read more

Spring tablescape ideas
The House That Lars Built

I think as a child I came to loathe the phrase “set the table”. I just wanted to skip the formalities in the wake of feeling nothing-is-as-important-as-my-raging-hunger-right-now. And to be honest this might still be the case…but many years later, I am now the adult that oogles over table settings — curated picnics, themed dinners and coordinated brunches to name a few. Tablescapes have certainly blown up in the social media world and I like to think of it as a reclamation of space and creativity. These spring tablescape ideas are some of the ways you can also create with intention and make a ..read more

My religious background comes with some added deeper meaning to my favorite spring-time traditions. And I think it might for many of you too! Fake cake Easter eggs
The House That Lars Built

I hopped on the fake cake train and I haven’t gotten off. Anyone else? If you recall, I made twenty mini fake cakes for Valentine’s Day and found the process so soothing that I knew I wanted to try it on some Easter eggs. I had recalled the panoramic sugar Easter eggs from growing up and this was a different take on it, but with something that won’t attract any ants. I found the process a bit trickier than the round cakes because of the shape of the eggs and not having any flat surfaces. Let me tell you how I did it! The older brother–the panoramic Easter egg Panoramic sugar Easter eggs, intri ..read more
