Jane & Nige – Our journey so far     Well, where to begin??  Nige and I both felt very flattered when we were asked to write a piece about our journey so far as it’s just us doing our thing and plodding along.  However, we’ve been so inspired by so many people in the Keto Fitness Club group over this past year that we thought if our story can help just one person, then putting it down on paper has got to be worthwhile.  I’ve had weight problems all my life, from a little girl and, consequently, have “been on a diet” virtually all of my life.  I honestly b ..read more

My Keto Journey I started my keto journey about two years ago - yep just as Covid hit I found this group via the wonderful Michele Cooper!n the last stages of pregnancy and was what I classed as a ‘good diabetic’ NOT!!!! I ate and drank what I liked exercise yeah that was walking to school or the pub! But my life was about to change for the better… Shortly after I joined I was going to do a KICK but ended up on the first digital KICK (don’t ask me who else was on as can’t remember!) but all I knew was WOW no more American recipes of which I found were puds and kept thinking what else do they e ..read more

Excuse the pose.... My husband was keen to take a photo of me, as I wasn't in leggings or a Keto T-shirt.... Shush my vest was keto! We went to lunch at his old office in Cheltenham. They provided Antipasto, and I provided the bread, chocolate and sugar free Werthers - perfect. An opportunity became available for my husband to take voluntary redundancy, which we had to take due to his Parkinsons Disease. Financially not great timing, but health wise, it was one of the best decisions we ever made. Lock down, made us realise that we could actually live together in fairly decent harmony!   My journey so far ….During my appointment with a consultant back in March 2019, I was really struggling with my recovery following major surgery the previous September. He said at one point “You will never be the same again health wise” and “Today is as good as its going to be”. This didn’t do anything for my mindset as I was suffering with bad chronic fatigue, constant pain and no control over my bowel. At my next visit I saw my own consultant and he suggested I may benefit from a low carb diet. So, like everyone else I went home and began my research, I could not find much about low c ..read more

Here I am 9 months later, who would have thought it, my story in the newsletter... The Helen of May 2021 is no more, Everyone's journey is different, trauma, phobia, and no confidence have all been a big part of mine. Along with medication for longstanding anxiety disorder, depression.  Diagnosis of osteoarthritis during the start of lockdown was also affecting my back and hips as the weight piled on. Having suffered from poor mental health, let me just say I’ve had treatments, medications, counselling for many years, haven't been able to have sharp knifes in my kitchen (I couldn't even ..read more

Written by Suzanne Cole Keto..... 20 months on Firstly, I'm just a normal everyday girl who has struggled with her weight since leaving high school.  I'm not special in any particular way, I've not found the answer to eternal youth, I've not found the magic pill or the secret to happiness, however I have discovered Keto and found that by living a Keto lifestyle I have changed dramatically, mentally and physically.  I started my journey to a new me on the 1st of June 2020, I was a tight size 20, very overweight (BMI 33), tired and my world seemed sluggish, I did very little exercise ..read more

Lee's Story: Type 1 Diabetes

When my wife Tracy began her Keto journey in September 2020, I decided to eat a lot of the ‘new’ meals she was discovering. I did not think of myself as being Keto as I have been a type 1 diabetic since age 11. Throughout my life I have been dependent on multiple insulin injections, balanced to a varying amount of carbohydrates in my diet. Doctors drill it into a type 1 diabetic that you NEED carbs! So my meals were often loaded with bread, pasta, rice and potatoes. The new keto style meals that I tried were solely to help my wife in her journey. I did not want her to feel that she was the on ..read more

Written by Eira Hammond At ‘Kestival’ back in the summer with the Keto Fitness Club, I was privileged to meet and listen to Dr Jen Unwin and her husband, Dr David Unwin talk about their Low Carb and Keto experiences and how they have helped so many people over the years. When Dr Jen mentioned a programme that she was establishing to research and help people who may have a food/sugar addiction I wanted to find out more, so before the day was over, I made a beeline for Dr Jen and got the information about the forthcoming weekend planned for mid- September. I checked my diary as soon as I got hom ..read more

My journey started in March 2020, as soon as my physiotherapist said I was able to start exercising after my injury. In March 2019, I tore my patella tendon away from my kneecap whilst visiting family up in Yorkshire. Needing an operation to re-attach it, spending over a week in hospital afterwards, I looked up ways on the net how to get fitter. Months of rehab followed before being given the all clear roughly a year later.  I was a big guy to begin with, I was 21st before my injury and gained a further 12lbs whilst recovering. I was the original carb fiend; chips, rice, bread, pastries ..read more

Manchester Meet-Up: Josephine Writes...

I really wanted to go to the Manchester Meet as it’s not that far as the ‘crow flies’ from where I live, but I was concerned about health issues; if I could manage a whole day without ‘crashing’, whether I’d miss the trains, whether there would be any assistance (even though I’d booked it) whether my Powerchair would let me down and so many more things going through my head. Procrastination set in. I was going, then I wasn’t. Once I’d booked everything I was then determined to go, I told myself I’d got to do this. It was a challenge to be met.  The morning arrived; I woke up at 6am nooooo ..read more
