I can’t believe it took me this long to write about the Victorinox Swiss Army Airboss Mach 3. I consider these standout chronos to be cornerstone pieces for any collector of Swiss Army watches. The Airboss Mach 3s were quartz-driven watches with several unique time-keeping tricks including a central-minutes chronograph and a separate internal count-down bezel. Today we will look back at the first and second-generation Mach 3 variations made in the early and mid-2000s. STRAP SWAP: Using the Rare Red Watchband from the 2009 Jubilee Limited Edition Chronograph on Other Victorinox Swiss Army Watches

Of all the watches appearing on the Watch Hunter website, the one that I seem to get the most inquiries about is the famous Victorinox Swiss Army Infantry Vintage Jubilee Chronograph Limited Edition from 2009. I affectionately call this one the “Ronald McDonald” because of the color scheme. Just looking at it makes me want to order fries and a shake! Because the official name of the watch is a mouthful, I’ll just refer to it at the Infantry Vintage Jubilee LE. Infantry Vintage Chrono Jubilee LE The Victorinox model 241329 is a deliciously loud and wonderful watch. It is everything ..read more

Buying a Tudor Pelagos to Replace a Pile of Blue Watches
Watch Hunter

I’m not sure if I am alone to believe in the concept of a “spoiler watch”. Heck, I might even be coining this term since I cannot find any mention of it on the internet pertaining to watch collecting. Spoiler watches are models that are so good that they subdue the urge of the watch collector to buy similar “lesser” watches. Having a spoiler watch in the collection may even persuade him to sell off similar watches that just don’t cut it any more. Tudor Pelagos 25600TB The main thought behind a spoiler watch is “why would I buy a lesser watch when I have the best one that I can get already ..read more

Introducing the Heritage1854.com Site for Timex Watch Collectors

Being a member of the Red Bar Group has granted me access to people that I might never have bumped into on the street. While watch collecting is becoming more mainstream these days, I have seldom met true watch scholars in the real world. Even rarer is meeting a fellow enthusiast whose intellectual pursuit and bonafide passion is the Timex Watch company. Photo: Heritage1854.com Of the many watch collectors I know, only some have the passion and persistence to learn every nugget of information about a particular brand or watch. These so-called super nerds can eventually reach “expert status ..read more

LIKE THIS? BUY THAT: Swiss Army Night Vision 2 Compared to the Tudor North Flag
Watch Hunter
by Andrew Hughes

Long before I owned a Tudor North Flag, I had a second generation Victorinox Swiss Army Night Vision. I loved this watch’s bold case design with an integrated bracelet. It was like nothing I had seen before, until several years later when I acquired the excellent Tudor North Flag. I was stunned to see how many visual similarities these two models shared. If these watches had been guests on the Jerry Springer Show, surely their DNA tests would suggest that they might be related. Shocking indeed! I wonder who could have been the father?! Hmmm? DNA test is probably. Photos: Tudor ..read more

It is always a joy to see an old friend. In this case, I recently spotted a rare Victorinox Swiss Army Solar Compass Limited Edition for sale on eBay. This watch made the top 10 rarest Swiss Army watch list so it definitely got my attention. Most photos are credited to that auction and presented here as a record of the rare model. Solar Compass SC1500 LE This auction was only for the watch so no box or papers were included. Often, the literature that comes with these limited editions offers more information than is commonly known about a watch. Traditionally, Swiss Army would release a limit ..read more

Introducing A New Watch Hunter Series: LIKE THIS?, BUY THAT
Watch Hunter
by Andrew Hughes

In a new Watch Hunter series, “LIKE THIS? BUY THAT”, budget-friendly watches will be compared to more expensive models from well-known manufacturers. It’s like saying “if you cannot own THIS watch right now, then THAT watch might work as a satisfying alternative”. Many watch lovers must make responsible choices based on their budgets, and some hot models are hard to get. Substituting a “big name brand” for an “affordable brand” is nothing new. My parents were masters of stretching a teacher’s salary to clothe and feed four kids. They replaced the Nikes that we kids put in the shopping cart wit ..read more

A Watch Collector’s Review of 2020, aka the Year of the Dumpster Fire
Watch Hunter

COVID-19 changed everything in 2020. The whole year will likely represent a black mark in the historical timeline for watch collectors (and everyone else too). There was a “normal life” before that year. Then a strange “ new normal” was established in 2020 for many different reasons. Watch collecting was changed as we know it, but it was not all bad. Some things in the watch industry had to update with the times. Below are a few things that I noticed. In-Person Get-Togethers Were Put on Hold There is nothing like the threat of contracting a potentially deadly virus to change your thinking abou ..read more
