Yet another book I am reading (the first was The Cider House Rules) because of the excellent movie adaptation. I loved Ben Affleck’s writing and direction in The Town. The gritty Boston atmosphere, the heist action, thug with a heart tropes – all worked beautifully in the movie. Would the book (also called Prince of Thieves in earlier editions) be just as good?
About the Book
The Town
Charlestown, a blue-collar Boston neighborhood, produces more bank robbers and armored car thieves than any square mile worldwide. In this gripping, intricately plotted thriller, Claire Keesey, the branch manager ..read more

This week’s theme is all about the books on our Spring TBR!
I have been on a bad reading streak since my dad passed away December last year. Read just one book on my Winter reading list. I’ve also been blogging very little lately. However, today’s TTT prompted me to wake up a bit and try to bring back some of my interests. I do have a very interesting pile of books, just need to f ..read more

I read the first few books of the Cormoran Strike series and wasn’t too impressed. The mystery in The Cuckoo’s Calling was dire, and I wasn’t too invested in the slow burn will they won’t they Strike and Robin romance.
And then, there was the whole trans controversy, which put me off her books for a long time. But at a loose end, and craving a mystery, I caved and picked up Troubled Blood and was wowed by the mystery. I had to read The Ink Black Heart next, and I think I am now totally vested in the series.

The topic this week is Favourite Books of 2023.
Looking back at 2023, I read and loved many books, and it’s hard to narrow it down to just 10 books.
My favorite books of 2023
Tess of the D’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy – I like a good, long, classic read, but often don’t get the time, or have the concentration to focus on one. But this book was amazing, just layers ..read more

Looking back at my Fall reading plan, I feel I have done just about ok. I started strong by reading The Burning Girls and The Chalk Man by C.J. Tudor back to back. I then went completely off-track before coming back to this list with The Cider House Rules by John Irving. It’s a long and somewhat slow, meandering book resu ..read more

Phew! I have no idea where the last three months whizzed by. I have been a little quiet-ish on the blog. Mainly because my brain has been too preoccupied with everything else that’s been going on in my life.
There has been a change in my dynamic and thought processes over the last three months. I have been much more quiet, introverted, and focused on work and all manner of grown-up things.
Yes, some time was left over for fun, but not a lot.
Travel
I had a short work trip to Noida end of July, where I tagged on a weekend getaway to Udaipur that was simply fun, fun, fun! I blogged about one day ..read more

Last month, I embarked on the Readers Imbibing Peril Reading Challenge, with full gusto. I had three books on my list and finished two of them.
Books for my RIP Reading Challenge
The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager was the first book I read, and it was great – twisty and unexpected. It starts out clichéd, but the ending goes all over the place. I loved that Sager wasn’t afraid to go all the way cuckoo with the book.
The second book – The Burning Girls by C.J. Tudor, was one of the best horror/crime books I read this year. Again, twisted, cunning, and all things unexpected. Awesome, and I ..read more

This week’s theme is all about the books on our summer TBR!
Looking back at my Summer reading plan, I feel I went a little off-track. I read a lot this summer, just not too many from my planned book list. The only ones I read from my list were These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong and The Porpoise by Mark Haddon – both delightful. I am still on Violeta by Isabel Allende, which is n ..read more

It’s been a long time since a thriller surprised me this much. I went into the book knowing that it would be a generic read; it was simply meant to round out the list of books I had kept for the RIP Reading challenge, but it ended up being much more than I expected.
About The House Across the Lake
The House Across the Lake
Casey Fletcher, a recently widowed actress trying to escape a streak of bad press, has retreated to the peace and quiet of her family’s lake house in Vermont. Armed with a pair of binoculars and several bottles of liquor, she watches Tom and Katherine Royce, the glamorous co ..read more

Did you ever finish a series that you totally loved, couldn’t put down, and then BAM! The ending was so awful that it made you hate the whole thing? Like, seriously, what were they thinking? Ugh! Well, sad to say, that was my experience with A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series.
I fell in love with the first two books, but As Good as Dead, which I hope is the last in this series killed all my love.
Before I go into the whys, here’s a short synopsis of the book.
