April The expected start of the 2022 fishing season will be the first week of April, 2022. I do not expect Lake Erie to freeze this year. We have a double-dip La Nina this year and normally Lake Erie does not freeze when we have a La Nina. If possible, I will begin this year’s fishing season in March, weather permitting, for Perch. Fishing Report Buffalo – Walleye Opener My son and I went fishing for walleyes on the opener (May 2) and the next day, Sunday (May 3) during the day. The weather was nice on Saturday, light and variable winds for the most part that kept changing direction throughout the morning. New Buffalo Fishing Report I went fishing for fun alone on Tuesday this week.  Because it was so early early in the season I targeted Perch. The weather was nice, light and variable winds for the most part.  The easterly winds kept changing direction throughout the morning and we had mostly gray skies.
