Rhythm for Dynamo Updates

If you hang out on the Dynamo forum, you have probably seen a few comments from me regarding Rhythm availability. The original forum post is here: https://forum.dynamobim.com/t/rhythm-for-dynamo-availability-question-for-the-community/92707/1 TLDR: Rhythm was becoming difficult to maintain across Revit versions, so I needed to figure it out or give up on publishing it. The good news is I figured it out. But, if you wanted to know more about the problem and why it exists, I did make an entire video (with sample files) to demonstrate. After a few weeks of hacking at Dynamo, I did manage to come ..read more

Monocle for Dynamo Update!

I’m sorry if you use Dynamo and don’t know about or use Monocle. You should, it definitely makes Dynamo better. But maybe I am a bit biased as I make the thing. Here is an overview video if you aren’t familiar: I tend to add new features every few months. These include feature requests from awesome users on Monocle’s Github and a few ideas I come up with along the way. Recent additions include Better Save and Node Swapper! i love seeing (and sharing) the evolution of tools. i wanted node swapper to be a bit nicer, so here is a progress gif. (coming soonish in monocle for #DynamoBIM) pic.tw ..read more

Autodesk University 2022 has come and gone. If you missed it and wanted to see the vlogs I did, check out that playlist here. With that, all the votes have been tallied, and they have announced the top speakers and classes for this year. I am ecstatic to announce that I did receive a top speaker award in the “Top-Rated Technical Instruction” category for my class, “I Shipped My Scripts: Awesome Strategies for Sharing Dynamo Graphs” For those who could not make it in person, the pre-recorded version of the class is available on Autodesk University’s website here. I also have a partial live reco ..read more

What’s new in Dynamo for Revit 2023.1.1

Recently, Revit 2023.1 was released, and shortly after, 2023.1.1 was released! In addition to all the new Revit features discussed here, there are quite a few improvements, enhancements, and new features for Dynamo! In this post, we will look at a few of my favorite features. (for a detailed list, visit the initial Dynamo 2.16 blog post here) 1. In-Line Node Renaming This is one of those features that, once you see it, you think, “Why was it not always this way?!”. By double-clicking a node name, you can now rename it right in line. Simply awesome. 2. Custom Inputs Node For the longest time, w ..read more

It’s been a little while since I could do a post like this. As we all know, the last two years have been filled with virtual conferences, meetups, and live streams. These have been great, and connecting to everyone on this level has been incredible. (Check out the playlist below for a few of them): However, here we are in 2022 and in-person events are back! As a matter of fact, the first AEC Event(back in person) that I attended was BILT. I actually managed to vlog that experience here: BILT Aftermath And now, here we are with Autodesk University on the horizon. I am pleased to say that I a ..read more

“All children are born artists, the problem is to remain an artist as we grow up.” — Pablo Picasso. If you have followed my blog for any amount of time, you have probably seen a few of the different UIs I have built. Often, these have memes, GIFs, comic sans, or are otherwise silly. One of the most recent ones (input identifier) People are often quick to attack and critique these design choices. Dismissing the work as a waste of time, or flat-out treating me like I am an idiot. What makes me sad about the people who react poorly is, what is their goal? Is it to discourage someone from learnin ..read more

I Shipped My Scripts

As you may know, Autodesk University was last week and it was really l great seeing everyone in person again. I wrote a post about it here, AU Aftermath. At this year’s event I was lucky enough to teach a Dynamo class. I was also unlucky enough to have it scheduled on the LAST TIMESLOT OF THE LAST DAY. Needless to say, the pressure was on to make it as fun as I could. In addition to having a ton of fun, I was able to record a good chunk of the class, (until my GoPro died). The recording is available now on my YouTube channel and the sample files are linked below as well. And since the sample ..read more

Autodesk University Aftermath

Well, as quickly as it arrived it is now gone. Autodesk University 2022 is a wrap. Right up front, I want to say that, this event was amazing because it was in-person and I had the chance of seeing people I had not seen in years and meet others that I had only ever interacted with virtually. This year was also the first year that I have ever pushed myself to create a “vlog” for each day of the event. Previously, I had done this at BILT North America 2022. You can read all about that here. Aside from talking to a camera, one of the hardest parts of making a vlog each day is my turnaround of try ..read more

My Python Journey

If you have followed this blog for any amount of time, you are probably familiar with my passion around sharing “my Dynamo journey”. The summary is, I opened Dynamo in 2013, it threw all sorts of errors at me and I closed it, (thinking, “I will never learn this”). In 2014, I attended Marcello’s class at Autodesk University (AU) and it finally clicked. My python journey (in Dynamo) is extremely similar. I opened Python at a lab at AU2014 and it was intimidating! Here are a few images of my journey: Today, I am excited to continue this journey by introducing my new co ..read more
