The shorthand machine (sometimes known as the stenograph) is the laptop-like device that you see court reporters use in the court room, deposition, or wherever else they are needed. It is thanks to these machines that our court reporters are able to type over 200 words a minute (though it is their own skill that leads them to such a high accuracy rate)!
