Westerly’s Awakening Early Morning in Working Westerly Early Morning in Working Westerly 01 20240219 850_9520_displayEarly morning winter scene overlooking the working landscape of Westerly, Rhode Island In Westerly's hush, where dawn paints the rail, A quietude hangs, a story to exhale. The taproom sleeps, its revelry long done, While gears in the station sigh, their day begun. Across the tracks, where industry takes hold, A plume of smoke unfurls, a tale untold. The service station stirs, a sleepy-eyed machine, Yawning in the light, a day's work yet unseen. No song of birds yet breaks the fr ..read more

Renewal at Salter Grove Geese and Swans at Salter Grove Geese and Swans at Salter Grove 02 20240222 850_9624_displayGeese and Swan commiserate and nest together upon the marsh at Salter Grove, Warwick, Rhode Island When winter's icy grasp doth loosen hold, And sun-kissed breezes melt the frosted ground, The voice of spring in nature's heart unfolds, With vibrant life in joyful chorus crowned. To Warwick's shores, where Salter Grove doth land, A feathered pilgrimage with wings unfurled, The swan, with grace, and geese, a loyal band, Descend upon the marsh, an aureate world. In sunlit gold, the ..read more

Midst pebbled hues of earth, its form doth stand, A silent paean where hope forever keeps. Though tossed by waves, and worn by sandy strife, Its azure centre reflects eternal light. A spirit clear, throughout briny life, Hope's gentle wisdom, in the sunlit bri ..read more

Shell Sanctuary  A Covering Shell A Covering Shell 20240203 01 850_9154_displayBleached clam shell covering a rock on the sands of East Matunuck State Beach, South Kingstown, Rhode Island A pearl of ocean's memory, bleached white, Holds secrets whispered by retreating tide. Beneath its curve, a haven from the light, Sand shelters stone, in fragile peace tied. But ocean's heart beats constant, deep and strong, And soon the wave will claim its whispered song. But five days young, since darkness claimed its hold, It whispers tales of love, both new and old. With borrowed light, a mere twenty-sevenfold, It paints the sky with love's embrace, untold. Though waxing ever, ever chan ..read more

Railed Serpent Departs Westerly Westerly Train Ride in February  Westerly Train Ride in February 01 20240219 P1000046_displayA late afternoon train departs from Westerly Station (Westerly, Rhode Island) on a late afternoon in mid-February. 3:25, EST's pale sun bleeds gold, Westerly huffs, train's silver serpent bold. Steel exhales schedules on steel tracks below, Where winter's breath hangs heavy, whistles slow. Brick shoulders hunched, graffiti's faded cries, Beneath the underpass, where shadow lies. Icicles clench, crystal teeth in frosted air, Sun's smack melts slow, leaving winter's g ..read more

Swan Feather's Song Feather of a Swan Feather of a Swan 02 20240224 850_9717_displayA single feather of a swan caught on a sprig among the reeds in the afternoon sun at Salter Grove in Warwick, Rhode Island. Where salty breezes o'er Warwick's shores do blow, And Salter Grove expands its verdant glow, Among the reeds, where sunlight dances free, A sight did strike, and move my soul with glee. A swan's white plume, upon a twig did rest, Like angel's wing, from earthly toil released. No longer gracing sky, with graceful sweep, Yet beauty held, in slumber soft and deep. The chanteuses of the bay ..read more

Snow Covered Tires - Puns in Haikus. Photopoetry by Keith R Wahl

Every now and then, I find something that I don't like even though I am able to find a way to make it visually appealing. In this case, it is cast off tires in the midst of beautiful Ryan Park in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. Rather than be indignant, I tend to use humor and make puns. In this case, I decided to mix my puns with haiku.  Snow Covered Tires - Puns in Haikus Snow-covered tires rest, Nature's park becomes their bed, Tread softly, they said. No boastful strut, no plumage meant to gleam, Just flowing lines, a masterpiece supreme. It curves its neck, a graceful, swan-like "S", A silent son ..read more
