Utah always delivers! Whether it’s sunshine or storms, Solitude gets the goods. This year’s Pond Skim Beach Party was no exception, with sunny skies and warm temperatures providing perfect beach weather for one of our signature spring events. On April 13, over 100 costumed skiers and riders attempted to cross the 75-foot-long, 4-foot-deep pool that our mountain ops team constructed at the bottom of Main Street. Some made it across, many didn’t – but all were smiling when they exited the pond. High Fives Foundation founder Roy Tuscany emceed our Pond Skim Beach Party. High Fives is a non-profi ..read more

What an amazing event! Red Bull Cascade was at Solitude March 29-30, bringing together some of the world’s top freeskiers to take on a custom-built course made up of park features, natural booters, and big mountain terrain. Participation was invite-only, with 16 world class athletes showing up for both team and individual events. Amber’s Updates: Grooming
Solitude Mountain Resort Blog
by Amber Broadaway

Solitude receives a lot of attention for its deep powder skiing and riding; we also have fantastic groomed runs. Our hardworking grooming team is busy on the mountain every night, working two shifts with up to 10 snowcats to smooth out approximately 30 to 40 trails. Backing up our cats is a vehicle maintenance team that services them during daylight hours, resulting in very little downtime. Our snowcats fit into two main categories: free cats and winch cats. Free cats cover the main acreage of the resort, laying down entire football fields worth of corduroy in places like Main Street, Moonbea ..read more

Solitude Mountain Resort Blog
by Amber Broadaway

Nestled between two popular Utah ski resorts, Brighton and Solitude, it’s all too easy to overlook the Solitude Nordic & Snowshoe Center. But with 20 kilometers of groomed trails through beautiful mountain terrain, along with plenty of options for exploring them, this gem of a place is not to be missed. Terrain in the Wasatch can be steep, but the Nordic Center has special claim to some of the gentlest grades in the area. The trails around Silver Lake portion of the Nordic Center are relatively flat, providing a great learning environment whether you are clipping into Nordic skis for the ..read more

Solitude Mountain Resort Blog
by Amber Broadaway

January is National Ski Area Association (NSAA) Safety Month, and we have some fun activities planned for you. It’s also a great opportunity to talk about mountain safety in general. It’s been a different snow year than last year when we were receiving record snowfall. Conditions have been leaner this year, with more hazards on the hill. When lean conditions are present, you may need to change some of your skiing and riding habits to fit the snow (or lack thereof). Checking your speed and picking your line to navigate around hazards are a couple tips to start with. This may sound like common ..read more

Amber’s Updates: Lift and Terrain Openings
Solitude Mountain Resort Blog
by Amber Broadaway

Mother Nature finally delivered in December! Recent storms and snowmaking have allowed us to open five of our eight lifts along with 35 trails. More lift and trail openings are just around the corner. We got off to a quick start this season by spinning chairs on November 10. Our snowmaking crews did a remarkable job getting us off to a quick start while dealing with early-season challenges including variable temperatures and mechanical issues. Remember that 816 inches of snow we received last season? Well, when all that snow finally melted it put an excess of organic matter in the water sourc ..read more
