On Saturday 20th November, MMTC held a fundraiser musicals night to raise money for our next show Guys and Dolls. What a success it was! The audience feedback has been amazing and we manage to raise an whopping £761 that will go straight to MMTC. Thank you to our amazing singers who volunteered to entertain us all night. There is no denying it: We actors can be a superstitious bunch. Perhaps it is the flare for dramatic tendencies or a mixture of nerves and a pinch of paranoia before a performance, but whatever the reason there are a fair few superstition linked to the theatre! The ghost light is a light that gets left switched on, on the stage while the theatre is empty.  It is usually a single naked bulb on a stand placed downstage centre.   The primary reason for leaving a light switched on is of course safety. However during these strange and unknowing times, it is a comfort for us to know there is a light on, a light ray of hope during dark and dismal times. Can you believe it! We are finally back and rehearsals are well underway! A huge thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to get us back into full rehearsal mode, from temperature checks to mask wearing, social distancing to understudies; I doubt there is very little the company will do to get Guys and Dolls on the stage. We started up again on Thursday the 20th January (after a two week delay due to Omicron causing havoc and pushing up Covid cases in the area) but what a fantastic response we had! If there has ever been a time to start getting excited, it's now! After a difficult 18 months of lock downs, social distancing, cancellations and disappointment... ... As most of you know in 2022 Maghull Musical Theatre company celebrates its 50th anniversary, we are in the process of organising some fabulous events to celebrate this amazing landmark for the company. But, where and how did it all start? Where it all began On the 19th October 1972, known then as Maghull Amateur Operatic Society, was founded by Gerry Fogarty and Malachy McKever. ‘Oppies’ as it was affectionately known to its members, began putting together shows in none other than our current home St. Andrews Parish Hall, Maghull, and the members paid a whopping £1.50 per year in 'Subs'. Well it's here, the start of a new month, but for us at MMTC, June would normally mean one thing... SHOW WEEK! A week today we would have been a the theatre for the get in, building and prepping our set, the next day would be the famous tech rehearsal ( this is for the lighting, sound and crew more than the cast!) Tuesday the Dress rehearsal and on the wednesday we would be donning our costumes for the boys it would be cowboy boots, Stetsons and guns.
