I don’t know about you Savvy snowbirds…but my skin is so dry! It’s feels like sandpaper. I am licking my lips non-stop! I hear people complain about humidity in Florida but boy is it good for keeping your skin dewy fresh!! I have been reading a lot about the benefits of dry brushing and thought I’d give it a go. The hardest part is remembering to do it before I get into the shower. Half the time I am part way through my shower and I realize I’ve forgotten and I make that face. You know the one I mean? You shoulder’s slump, you look up, your mouth gapes open and you moan “Uhg” LOL..did you ..read more

April showers bring May flowers I’m thinking ….Let’s get excited about spring….but it’s still so cold! My blood must be super thin southern blood!   Having said that, let’s spend these chilly days indoors and let’s start with getting the cob webs out of our homes. For us Savvy Snowbirds, our homes have been sitting empty for the past six months collecting dust. Deep cleaning. I started by getting my duct work professionally cleaned and disinfected. It’s nice to know that we are breathing fresh clean air! New air filters for the furnace ensures that dust and mites aren’t flying ou ..read more

We are finally home and I couldn’t be happier. The house is clean and I am thrilled with all of the updates that we had done over the winter season. With the Florida house cleaned and organized for the summer, I am ready to jump right in and get started on Fairwood Place. So…where to start LOL…it’s a no brainer for me.  The garage…oh the dreaded garage.  Any furniture that we left in the house has been moved into the garage, so all of that has to come back inside, not only to make room in there but also because I need somewhere to eat my breakfast! LOL My dining set is in there. So ..read more

Florida Farewell: Capturing Moments of Gratitude in My Journal
Savvy Snowbirds

As I sit here writing this last journal entry from Florida this season, I am overwhelmed with a profound sense of gratitude. I feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to live a snowbird lifestyle—to split my time between two beautiful homes, each offering its own unique charms and experiences. In Florida, I am grateful for the warm sunshine, the colours of the tropical flowers and this amazing community that Steve and I are a part of. I treasure the memories of lazy days spent lounging by the pool, evenings filled with laughter and camaraderie, competitive pickleball games, long w ..read more

I can’t believe how quickly this season went. Like most Savvy Snowbirds, we are getting ready to head home. There is always so much to do and think about over and above our social life…which BTW, our calendar is slammed until we leave. We are trying for one last visit or dinner with all of our American friends! Today, I am emptying all of the kitchen cabinets and wiping them out with some home made cleaning solution. You will find the recipe below. It’s a big job…one that I will be repeating on the other side too! Do you spring clean like our mother’s used to? That was such an ordeal wasn’t i ..read more

Hey hey everyone. Thanks Mom for asking me to write a post on your blog. My mom was asked to write a story about Fort Myers Beach after the hurricane for a magazine that she writes for regularly called Bay Watch News. While Michelle and I were visiting her over Christmas holidays we thought it would fun to all head to the beach together. My mom, to do her story and Michelle and I to do a craft beer crawl. You can catch my mom’s story in the February issue of the magazine. Our pub crawl  started at Crazy Dingo with the folks and our pal Tank. Tank loved walking around checking out t ..read more

The Art of Doing Nothing

The other day, I found myself sitting on my own  and “by my own” I mean with Tank my little side kick. I wasn’t’ doing much of anything. Just enjoying the sound of the rain. I had already journaled, did some housework and made lunch for Steve…so I just kicked back and rested…wasting time, doing  nothing. I picked up my computer and started reading some emails that I had saved under ‘read later’. This was later. I came across an article about purposefully doing nothing and the health benefits of it. This was amazing information for me. I thought wow!! I can do this. This thing ..read more

Do you ever have one of those days? I did. Grab a tea. It’s a doozy I dropped steve off at a meeting here at the Bonita Bay Marina the other day. Before he got out of the car he said “the keys are right here,” Not really paying attention I nodded… or maybe just ignored him…not really sure. In any event when he gets out of the car he inadvertently grabs the keys and puts them in his pocket. I got out of the passenger seat and hopped into the drivers seat. Tank and I were going on an adventure. We were going to the mall to get some white jeans. Tank and I listened to some tunes and I hummed al ..read more

Kindness matters.

The world is in such a sad state of affairs. Wars, terrorism, violence, and prejudice. Then there is the worry of Mother Earth herself. The abuse we feed her. It makes me wonder…does the world have the ability to become a kinder place? Are you all like me and worry to no end for our grandchildren? What is in store for them? I lose sleep over this. We are involved with a company called The Social Impact Games. The Social Impact Games (SIG) is a platform that leverages gaming science to inspire social good actions in an ecosystem called Competitive Kindness. And then I turned 60

Time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, newly married and embarking on my new life. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago.  I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then with of all my hopes and dreams. But, here it is… I am 60 and it catches me by surprise… How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my youth go? I remember being 10 years old and trying to figure out how old I would be in the year 2000….would I even be al ..read more
