I have been sitting a lot at home with layers on trying to stay warm lately...especially in the mornings. I clutch my coffee cup to warm up my hands and even at times microwaved the little bit of coffee left just to keep my hands warm. Well, the weather seems to be getting better(at least for a few days), so I decided to drive all the way over to Lake Murray. Nothing much to say but the water is not completely up where it was before they lowered it and visibility is not good. If you stick...

From time to time, low-flying bird can hit the line. Most of the time, it is just a "plug". Once in a while (I think I ran into it three times so far), the bird could manage to tangle itself with the line and could not get out.
Usually I will start to reel/pump to get the bird to within reach, then I could untangle it. However, this worked only once among the three entangled I had, and I was using a 20lb braid which was tangled on one wing. The other two cases, once I was using 12lb mono,...

Well. Me and pops have now been fishing regularly again. Not huge fans of fishing in super cold Conditions. But I’m going to keep this pretty short with how we have done at San v this past month. We have done about 6 trips in the last 30 days to the V averaging about 6 fish each day give or take. We have been catching them mainly on dropshot. Occasional neko rig. But, we have found consistent fish in 10-15 feet. And consistent fish in 20-40. So just about everywhere. Even caught one in 60,...

I've been bit by the concept of tiger wraps. Here's an unfinished (still needs a couple coats of epoxy) look of the current rod I'm building and donating to Escondido High School cougar warm-up that's coming up.
This is a Rainshadow RCLB70M 20-50# stick.
The first pic is the base layer with 3 coats of epoxy

2nd pic is the top layer after pulling the sacrificial threads out of the wrap. Sorry my shop lighting on this end of the bench is dim....

I finally finished up a 40# kayak rod that took the better part of 3 months to complete. Most of the time was spent recovering from ideas that just didn't turn out as I had hoped. As always, appreciate the recommendation from skrilla on using PW Electra black metallic to provide some pop on this tactical sleeper.
Blank: Rainshadow REVM710H, fast, 30#-50#, 3oz-8oz (trimmed to 7'6" so it will fit in my kayak hull)
Reel seat: ALPS TRI-AH18M-B
Guide train: ALPS XBXNLG size 20...
