“You will never ‘find’ time for anything. If you want time, you must make it.”
~ Charles Buxton
This whole concept of MAKING time for things that matter, rather than finding time in a schedule that has none… well it’s something I need to be reminded of regularly. When we’re busy, most of us do, because everything feels urgent. But is it?
Week three of my helping hiatus had a few hiccups, but isn’t that how we learn? The good news is, I experienced first hand, what saying NO allowed me to do. So, as I navigate week four of my helping hiatus I share what I did with that awareness, and ..read more

“Not every opportunity is meant to be my assignment.”
~ Lysa Terkeurst
This quote really spoke to me, and it helped me remember something I often tell my audiences. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. The helper in each of us wants to do good, even when the task may not be in our job description. Even if the task takes you away from something more important. And even if the task could easily be done by someone else.
There’s nothing wrong with helping unless it’s not helping you get through your own to-do, or if you end up feeling resentful for the lost time, or i ..read more

“Great habits improve performance and bring great success.”
~ Debasish Mridha
How many of us think about how to factor health into our annual business plan, or our quarterly work goals? That would be a smart idea, because when we take care of our health it will dramatically improve how we work.
It’s a no-brainer, but when life gets busy, it’s just too easy to prioritize work over self-care … so this week I’m sharing a short video with a few important reminders as to WHY health is key to HOW you work.

“The oldest, shortest words – ‘yes’ and ‘no’ – are those which require the most thought.”
~ Pythagoras
It’s true isn’t it? Those two simple words – ‘yes’ and ‘no’ – guide our decisions, actions … and schedules. Are you using them wisely?
As I work to manage a very busy schedule, I’m practicing how I deploy both words, and I’m being very strategic about when I say yes. I call it ‘HECK YES’ time management, and it’s helping me get back on track with with what’s most important to me.
Maybe it’ll work for you! Watch the 2-minute video below, or read the transcript that follows, and let ..read more

“If you have positive energy you will always attract positive outcomes.” ~ Steve Backley
Believe it! How we show up matters, not just for how it effects the people around us, but for how it impacts our own energy and mindset.
That’s why, as I navigate a very busy week, I’ve chosen to embrace an energy practice that’s simple to do, but not always easy to execute, and I want to share it with you.
Curious to know what I’m talking about? Watch the 90 second video below, or read the transcript that follows, and let me know if you agree.

“It’s not the load that breaks you down, it’s the way you carry it.” ~ Lou Holtz
Stress is an inevitable part of life, but it’s not meant to be so heavy that we get crushed under the weight of it. When that happens you’ve likely allowed chronic stress to turn to burnout, and that’s not a good thing.
When you can recognize the signs of stress and burnout, you can better equip yourself to properly carry the load, and a lot of that comes down to rest and recovery.
As I continue my exploration of stress and burnout, this week I’m highlighting the differences between the two, and sharing ..read more

“The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.”
~ Stephen R. Covey
And sometimes you have to make yourself the priority. I think we get overwhelmed when we don’t pause long enough to assess what we’re saying YES and NO to. Yay or nay?
If we want to stave off burnout and build resilience, that assessment needs to be a daily practice.
Watch the short video below to hear more, or read the transcript that follows, and let me know if you agree.

“Life is full of surprises, but the biggest one of all is learningwhat it takes to handle them.”
~ Deborah Wiles
I promised I’d tell you why I took the extended break from my weekly messages. I actually didn’t see it coming, and I surprised myself when I realized what had actually happened.
When life is busy, most of us are really good at just putting our heads down and getting the work done, but that often means we don’t listen closely enough to what our mind and body need in the moment. The thing is, even the most resilient people are fallible when it comes to self-care, and at the ..read more

“Sometimes carrying on, just carrying on, is the superhuman achievement.”
~ Steve Maraboli
I’ve been absent from your inbox for quite awhile and I’ve missed you. Next week I’ll tell you why I took the extended break (the reason may surprise you), but in the meantime, I thought I’d ease my re-entry into weekly messages with some information to help you carry on when you might not feel like carrying on.
As summer comes to end, I admit I often feel wistful. I’m usually not ready for the shorter, cooler days and the responsibility that comes with my non-summer-schedule. That being said ..read more

If you want to do your best work and sustain it over time, if you want to embrace the discipline of a corporate athlete along with all the hard work, allow your body and mind adequate short- and long-term recovery so your efforts can be sustained at a high level. Our tech-fed, digitally distracted, stress-filled existence demands it.
Amazingly, implementing recovery into your success plan is relatively simple, as long as you listen to your body. It knows what it needs, and when you provide what it asks for, body and mind will answer in kind. If you’ve been working so hard that you’re burned ou ..read more
