WorkLife News
by Jessica Davies

A new wave of chief HR and people officers are bedding in at companies, following high churn last year. And they’re going to need eyes in the backs of their heads, to solve today’s and future work needs.  To say the role of chief HR and people offices has stretched over the last few years, would be an understatement. With the current headwinds organizations face today, CHROs are under pressure to exhibit strong business acumen alongside their more traditional remits surrounding talent acquisition and people management, so they can win over boards and answer strategic questions around how ..read more

WorkLife News
by Hailey Mensik

Workplaces can become toxic due to a range of factors, but employees believe it comes down to one defining characteristic: how their direct manager behaves. About a third of employees who have experienced workplace toxicity say their managers have acted unethically and treated employees unfairly, like showing favoritism and ignoring feedback, according to a survey from INTOO, a career development and outplacement firm, including over 1,600 respondents.  Ultimately, over 70% of those surveyed said they’ve experienced some form of workplace toxicity.  Continue reading this article on w ..read more

WorkLife News
by Hailey Mensik

Perceptions around tattoos in the workplace have shifted widely in recent decades, and come as body art styles too have shifted away from large designs covering arms, chests and backs to more dainty, patchwork styles.  Gen Z is a key player in the shift as they place greater value on showing their authenticity and individuality at work. Over 90% of Gen Z workers in a recent EY survey said being authentic and true to themselves at work is extremely or very important, up 16 percentage points from before the coronavirus pandemic. But just like all kinds of hiring bias, some managers still ho ..read more

As a player, he won 4 Stanley Cups and 9 MVP awards. But what some people may not know is that he also coached in the NHL. In his four seasons coaching the Phoenix Coyotes, they didn’t make the playoffs once. Continue reading this article on worklife.news. WorkLife News

Are you seeing remote and hybrid job opportunities dwindle? It’s starting to get a little bit harder, depending on the industry and how much money you want to make in these roles.  In the four years since the pandemic, which prompted the rise of remote and hybrid work, there has been a tug-of-war between employees and employers about what (and more specifically – where) the best way to work is: from home, the office, or a mix of both. Experts frequently say that the pendulum is swinging back to the side where more people are returning to the office. But is that the case across the board ..read more

Inside H&R Block’s return to office mandate reversal
WorkLife News
by Cloey Callahan

H&R Block is blazing a trail in its return-to-office approach: the tax service giant has listened to its employees. Unlike other major corporations that have issued top-down RTO mandates, H&R Block hasn’t shied away from reversing its mandate and changing its protocols, after finding they were causing major issues for its staff. The Kansas City-based company, which has around 39,000 employees, first required its then-2,000 corporate workers to show up at an office Tuesday through Thursday back in March 2021.  Continue reading this article on worklife.news. WorkLife News
by Hailey Mensik

It’s open season on senior talent, thanks to the Federal Trade Commission’s ban on noncompete agreements, announced earlier this week. The ban was met with applause from pro-labor groups but swiftly criticized by business groups that filed lawsuits shortly after. That’s because the decision could have major implications for recruiters, employers, and some of their employees. It could spur an incredibly hot war for top talent with fewer barriers restricting high-level staff from job hopping over to competitors, experts say, but also could drive employees to take what they’ve learned to start th ..read more

With the rise of the chief AI officer, it’s time to examine ‘czar’ culture
WorkLife News
by Kristina Monllos

This story was first published by WorkLife sibling Digiday The rise of the chief AI officer should be no surprise. The position is simply the latest in a long line of roles that businesses have added to the C-Suite over the years to signal to the market that they’re on top of the newest shiny object. And AI, of course, is the shiniest new object. It’s a familiar pattern — a hot new thing is introduced to the industry, as is a new C-Suite exec to tackle it, only for a few years to go by and that role to no longer exist as either everyone is now implementing the hot new thing into their work or ..read more
