As yet un-named diorama in O gauge. It will be used mostly as a scenic backscene. At 3ft long by 8 inches wide it wont take up much storage space. Track is PECO bullhead with a couple of buffer stops all ballasted with coarse chippings secured, as usual, with dilute PVA. Few more bits to add as items are being built for another O gauge layout.   ..read more

Woodlands has its debut this weekend at the SSWRS exhibition at Wilton. Set in the era of British Railways (Southern Region) in the mid 50's to mid 60's. Mostly operated with Small tanks and tender engines. The layout is 8ft long and was inspired by Martin Brents Arcadia published in the March 1981 Model Railways magazine. Slightly elongated scenic area but virtually identical track layout.                                   ..read more

009 GLRailways (Steve Dodd) Bingley Works Side and Pannier Tank Loco bodies.

The twins have been painted and await nameplates. They were both bought from Steve Dodd of GLR Bespoke Services. They both were originally designed for a Fleischmann 7000, also fits an N-drive 12mm wheelbase chassis with the ends trimmed down.  Both of mine have chassis by Nevill Kent of N-Drive and once run-in perform well. Their pulling power is impressive with some lead in the smokebox and boiler. https://www.glrailways.co.uk/bingley-works-3d-prints-34-c.asp   ..read more

At last a new post and it is 009.  This 3D printed kit for the full cab GVT Tram loco is designed for the latest KATO 33-109 motor bogie. Indeed it just clips in with no additional work required. The window glass just clips in , although I secured them additionally with a smear of varnish. Still awaiting lining, the model performs well and looks superb. Seen here performing on Woody Lane at the recent Woodgreen Steam and Model Railway Show.  Nigel is to be congratulated on a very inexpensive virtually RTR (the motor bogie can also be supplied) model and his website is a must to ..read more

Thank you Mr Kernow for this a S&DJR van. Delayed by the postal strike, I must say that the wait was worth it! Withe a die-cast metal frame and added detail the result is stunning. This- yet again- provides impetus to dispose of vast amounts of 00 gauge stock and concentrate on the five layouts that I have or are proposed. New Year resolutions are great- aren't they ..read more

Found this at a recent exhibition and, as I am building an All 3rd thought it a good idea if only to copy the brake gear! This one has been well made and, if I can remove the roof, will be paired with said all 3rd. Couplings need fitting- Sprat and Winkle as usual- then it will be ready for forthcoming layout. The layout will be based around Wells so I can use S&DJR, Southern and GWR locos and stock.   ..read more

It is a very sad occasion when we loose a great friend. I had known Nigel for over 20 years and we shared a mutual pastime of model railways.  We attended many shows as exhibitors and days out to various places of mutual interest. A qualified sparky, Nigel also had a passion for military aircraft and ships- his attention to detail was astonishing. Seen here on board a Lancaster Bomber taxiing together with a member of the aircrew. His last days saw him having visits arranged for him which had always been wished for. Rest in peace my friend- one of the nicest most genuine people I ..read more

Next on the build list is a coach- first one I have made in 0 Gauge. Supplied with a 17 page instruction booklet plus a couple of sheets of historical data. As suggested I am making the chassis first although work has been done on the body whilst waiting for chassis components to cure. Below is how far I have progressed. This coach will be a nondescript Maroon for use on the next 0 gauge layout.   ..read more

0 Gauge Slaters Palvan kit- completed.
Dorset Railway Modelling Blog

The Slaters Palvan kit is now completed. An excellent kit to put together although I must admit that the brake gear gave me some challenges. The brake gear is brass, made up from a well etched sheet. No specific transfer sheet is available although some of the Shocvan/ Palvan sheet is useful although no made up wagon numbers are supplied. So, more ficticious numbers but you can't read them when the wagon is moving!   ..read more
