It's official. The popular Muni Heritage Weekend is ON for Saturday and Sunday, September 21-22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The traction (and bus) action will again center around our San Francisco Railway Museum, across from the Ferry Building on Steuart Street.

As part of the increasingly ironically-named Better Market Street project, F-line streetcars are being replaced by buses along the entire route, from Castro to Fisherman's Wharf, through April 6. The reason given by the project team: "PG&E will be relocating a utility vault on Market Street just east of the 6th Street intersection to support future phases of Better Market Street."

San Francisco has awarded just about its highest civic honor to a beloved honorary son, the late Tony Bennett. As morning fog chilled the air on Valentine's Day, Mayor London Breed was joined high on a hill - Nob Hill - by Bennett's wife Susan Benedetto, SFMTA/Muni leaders and workers, VIPs, and friends of the cable cars - to dedicate California Street Cable Car 53 to the singer who drew untold millions of visitors to the City and its cable cars with his rendition of "I Left My Heart in San Francisco".

Flipping that old saying to promote “120 years: SFMTA Photo Archive 1903-2023” now showing at the Harvey Milk photography center, 50 Scott Street, adjacent to Duboce Park. (N stops right there at East Portal of the Duboce Tunnel, the 22 and 24 are nearby.)

They say you never forget your first. Absolutely true for the open-top streetcar from England that turned heads on Market Street 40 years ago during the first Historic Trolley Festival that paved the way for the permanent F-line. People took one look, then a double take, and noted the smiles of the riders. It was quickly dubbed the "Love Boat".
