Welcome to the last instalment of the January UBC.
In her introductory post Mystee asked: What are you most looking forward to in 2025?
Have you set any creative goals?
I had not - and yet, here we are, wrapping up a month of daily writing! I posted every day, so I must have achieved some creative goal even though I didn't formulate and communicate it.
I'm not one to set fixed goals, but more often than not I'll reach them anyway. Sounds chaotic, but that's how I roll. Since my time is limited, I tend to work with to-do lists for what's of urgent importance, and I know some of ..read more

Welcome back to one of the last episodes of the January 2025 UBC.
I'm especially looking forward to my own post today. Why?
I want to talk about one of my favorite topics. No, no hockey, no cookies and no sightseeing today.
Music!
Here's a statement:
1984 was undeniably the most fantastic year for music!
It gave us iconic albums and hits from artists who have been successful in the music business for a long time, MTV was in its prime, shaping music culture visually as well as audibly. It really was a golden moment for diverse, timeless sounds.

A while ago I saw this meme on how to annoy Italians ?
This was back in December. Our elves thought it was time to get to it. Give it up for pineapple ? kiwi ? pizza ?!
It may not be for everyone but I liked it ? No hard feelings, my dear Italian friends ❤️
The trick is to put all the toppings on the pizza for baking, except the kiwi.
Now - let's talk about where I draw the line:
That's a hard NO!
How far would you go? Pineapple? Kiwi? Water melon? Lemon? Banana?
Let me know ..read more

Welcome back to January 2025's UBC - We're on the home stretch!
Today I'll just talk about my to-do list. I realize I had a similar post, and unfortunately today's won't involve a beer bottle Christmas tree or Frosty, the Snowman.
On the contrary. Today (by the time you'll be reading this it will actually be yesterday) it was raining all day and beyond.
And I actually finally disassembled the Christmas trees in the house, all three of them.
It had been in the back of my mind for a while, and I never felt like it. When I finally started to remove t ..read more

Good morning, happy Monday and welcome back to January 2025's UBC.
I have been talking about sightseeing at away games and the differences or similarities between soccer and hockey parenting.
Today let's take a look behind the scenes of a hockey mom's routine using the example of an away game.
Food is of high importance. I mean, they're teenagers, so even without being athletes, they're always hungry, right?
For about two years Colin has been a flexitarian, so whenever possible, he tries to avoid eating meat. That's why he likes his eat egg / pickles and cheese / pear ..read more

Welcome back to yet another UBC post. January is a mighty long month, isn't it?
The other day I was telling you about Colin's double duty for what turns out the rest of the season: He trains with and plays for his regular team U17 as well as U20, and these categories play in different regions.
With the first we get to go to the Italian speaking part of Switzerland with all its pros (gorgeous area, great food) and cons (opponent players are often very rough and refs are turning a blind eye to whatever the local team does), the older teammates' opponents all play in the Bern area and be ..read more

Welcome to another UBC post!
Let's indulge in a sweet treat today.
Colin told me that there are two types of chocolate chip cookies in the school canteen: “regular”, which taste just as good as my own, and “triple”, which I've never made before.
Well, say no more - challenge accepted!
After some shopping, measuring and chopping I was ready.
As a base I used my tried and tested recipe I had learned from "Tasty" during the pandemic.
One of the key attributes is the browned butter. The water contained in the butter evaporates during the bubbling process and is repl ..read more

Hello and happy Friday!
Also, welcome back to another UBC post. Today, let's discuss whether “thriving in life” is a human right.
A Facebook post caught my attention recently, and I couldn’t shake it. Here’s what an anonymous member of a Mom Group wrote:
"Hello, I would love your thoughts on moving to Munich. Has anyone lived in Munich and Zurich to provide a comparison? For context, I’m from NYC, and we have a small 6-month-old. No offense, but I find Zurich so boring, slow, and unfriendly.
I’m not thriving here.
My husband is German, and the baby has a German passport as well. I pl ..read more

Welcome back to another UBC post!
Since you guys were so enthusiastic about yesterday's post about the Bad Ragartz outdoor exhibition, I decided to share something similar that is situated at the opposite end of our country.
A few years ago I visited Martigny in the French-speaking part of canton of Valais. It is a formerly Roman town and home to the Fondation Pierre Gianadda, art collection and sculptures park.
When I was there, they were mainly exhibiting Rodin and Giacometti inside the building.
The outdoor sculptures live there permanently, though, and the giant ..read more

My dear blogging friend Kebba left me the following comment on the first post of this UBC:
"I think I keep up with your wonderful posts very well, during the year. But I had totally missed the sculpture garden, and that's my favorite image."
I promptly checked my blog posts from last summer, and what do you know?
The reason why the sculpture looked unknown to Kebba is that I actually never got around to blogging about this visit, which is a shame and will be rectified with this very post!
What is "Bad RagARTz"?
First of all, the name of one of the largest open-air ..read more
