With the surge of baby bump announcements happening around me recently, I thought it would be a good time to look at what we can do to help set our dogs up for the arrival of a new baby. If you have recently found out that you are expecting, then congratulations to you and your family! I hope you have a safe and healthy delivery. When babies come into the mix, as much as we like to think that the routine for our dogs is not going to change, it will. There are no two ways about it, but it doesn’t mean that your dog has to miss out either or struggle when their usual routine falls short of their ..read more

We yet again find ourselves seeing harrowing stories across social media surrounding children and dogs. As much as we are seeing fingers being pointed and blame being placed across all parties, what we must not lose foresight of, is in how we can impact and help keep our children and dogs safe. Two lives that have been entwined, to bring about memories and friendship through bonding and the act of growing up together. To end with the tragedy of two lives lost and many more lives forever changed through these tragic events. It is understandable that parents are questioning their choices su ..read more

Let’s talk about pain & behaviour and why so often you will see professionals recommend getting a vet check first. Yesterday I had a tooth pulled out and consequently I am in a lot of pain. I have barely slept which has made my temperament short. In essence, I am grumpy today and my tolerance levels are not good. So I am reaching my ‘had enough’ level much quicker than usual. Some could also say I am trigger stacked still from yesterday’s ordeal. On top of that, i have found myself doing behaviours I wouldn’t normally do and behaviours which cause pain elsewhere. I have been poking things ..read more

A dog will wag its tail for many reasons to communicate how a dog is feeling. One of the biggest misconceptions out there is that a waggy tail means that the dog is happy. When people have had an incident with a dog they often don’t understand it, and usually, that is because the dog wagged its tail. Let’s look at some of the reasons why a dog may wag its tail: To distribute or cut off their scent To make themselves appear bigger Dogs will wag their tails to show various emotions too, such as: Nervous Excited Aroused Scared Aggressive Fearful Relaxed Curious Over-aroused Happy A dog reall ..read more
