Energy Support Scheme Payments Have Started - Here’s How You Get Them
Everyquid

The UK government-backed energy support scheme has officially started. What was announced by the now-former Chancellor Rishi Sunak (yep, it was that long ago) earlier this year, everyone in the UK is getting £400 paid out over the next few months in separate payments to go toward their ever-increasing energy bills. In this post, I’ll explain exactly how you’ll get these, whether you pay via Direct Debit, are on a meter, or whatever else. For the record, this post simply covers the £400 for energy bills that everyone in the UK is getting. This won’t cover extra support packages that were announ ..read more

The Cost of Living’s Impact on Young Brits is Real
Everyquid
by Lewis Bartlett

When you’re a young student, you should feel like you have the world at your feet and that you have all the choice in the world as to what you want to do. That, plus going out and spending your money on things that you’ll no doubt regret in a later life is one of the fundamentals to being young, free, and very possibly single. We’ve all been there. Therefore, it may come as a shock to you that students in Britain are no longer doing these things, and no longer feel that they even have the choice to do them if they want to, thanks to new research by HSBC. In fact, the cost of living crisis has ..read more

Inflation, Rate Hikes, Recession - How to Survive 2022/23
Everyquid

The Bank of England have recently come out and not only raised the base rate of interest to the highest it’s been since December 2008 (when the Global Financial Crisis had just ended), but also warned against a possible more than a year-long recession coming for the UK in 2022 or 23. Additionally, they advised they see CPI inflation hitting a high of about 13.3% before it starts to come back down. Usually, when ‘analysts’ or ‘experts’ on TV say things like this, I turn the other cheek and write it off as fear-mongering nonsense. But when the official bank of our country does and says things li ..read more

What The Intelligent Investor Taught Me in 2022
Everyquid

I recently finished reading Benjamin Graham’s The Intelligent Investor for the very first time, and was, obviously, blown away by it. It’s remarkable to me how a book that was originally published in 1949, and last revised by the man in 1973 (three years before he died), is still accurate in describing the stock market and overall economic environments of today. I also really appreciated the brilliant commentary that Jason Zweig provided in this version of the book, of which was published in 2003 that reflected the insane stock market swings of 1999-2003 (the dot com bubble era). All of these ..read more

It’s Official - Young Brits Are Top of the Savings Charts

Welcome back to the blog! Before I start, this post is in collaboration with the awesome folks at HSBC UK via Neo Media World. HSBC are one of the major banks in the UK, so I’m very honoured to have been contacted to showcase this content. Nothing here is sponsored, in the sense that I’ve not been paid anything for this content. Many thanks to all mentioned for giving me this opportunity. This is just the beginning! HSBC UK have commissioned new research with YouGov into the savings habits of adults across the UK, and it’s good reading for younger Brits, especially those aged 25-34. However, t ..read more

Before I get into this post, I want to provide a short update on the posting volume on Everyquid. Firstly (again), apologies for my lack of posting this past week. I intentionally took a week for myself to build up more ideas for posting, plus talking about money at the moment with respect to the global uncertainty thanks to the geopolitical crisis in Ukraine didn’t feel right. I also spent some time out of the house over the past couple of weekends, which was great. I went to Alton Towers the weekend before last, and just this weekend gone, I went to London to go to the Dungeons and generally ..read more

How Much Should You Have Saved/Invested At Your Age?
Everyquid
by Lewis Bartlett

This is (quite literally) an age-old question - just how much should you have saved and invested at your age, in line with the UK average? Even if you consider the absolute love-affair that the average Brit has with consumerism and debt, you might still be surprised at just how easy or hard it is to be at the average for your age, or even above average. In this post, I’ll go through how much the average Brit has saved and invested at certain age categories, and calculate how much they would have in retirement if they stayed within this average. More importantly, this should provide you with a ..read more

How to Prepare for the Next Stock Market Crash
Everyquid
by Lewis Bartlett

On average, the stock market has experienced a crash once every 12 years. This means that during the average person’s lifetime, they will experience about 7-8 crashes. And about 7-8 of those will be when they’re invested in the stock market in some kind of way (unless you’re buying stocks from the age of 0-12, that is…forget Peppa Pig and Thomas the Tank Engine, gotta get that compound interest!). So it helps to prepare for when one will eventually come. And that right there is the first lesson for today - the stock market will crash, you will be affected by this, and you will (more than likel ..read more

The Different Types of FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early)
Everyquid

Ahh, fire…the thing that has provided human beings with warmth and a nice home-cooked meal for thousands of years. But when it comes to FIRE in the financial world, we’re not talking about the red flickery stuff. Instead, we’re talking about an entire movement that is dedicated to becoming truly free. Where that ‘human potential’ you always hear about can really come into its own, and you no longer tie yourself down to what you think is the ‘right way of living’. The thing is, we only get one of these lives, so why would we want to spend our time on this planet doing things that we don’t enjoy ..read more

Some Great Money-Making Apps for Extra Income
Everyquid

Recently, I’ve been dedicating a lot of my free time to discovering how I can earn more money on the side in order to continue to build multiple streams of income. This is one of the best ways to grow your money, your overall net worth and ensure that you’ll get to financial independence way quicker than if just relying on your main source of income and saving, both of which will only get you so far. I’ve been doing quite well over the past couple of years to build several income streams. Of course, there’s my job which clearly pays me the most (at the moment), but I have other means of income ..read more
