Ahh... sometimes the feeling of home is one that just reaches inside and grabs the most sensitive part of our beings.  Sadly I know the feeling isn't universal, but lately I've been becoming an Ancestry.com contributor for the Schipper Family Tree; and all homes that I'm running into from my Dad's home, or memories of playing in the farm fields of Jimmy & Verna's house all bring back the warm and fuzzies of growing up in north eastern Wisconsin.  Here's just a few pictures that have been floating around: Fine time to dwell on the positives and not that if I went ..read more

DBT #343 "Skyline" - The Starlight Darlins
Dave's Basement Tracks

These four musicians have been weaved into the blog a few times, plus individually they include Gray Buchanan on fiddle, Sage Christie on guitar, Emily Johnson-Erday on banjo, and Lauren Oxford on bodhran.  Together I believe they were born with a help of a John McCutcheon workshop, now that's pretty cool to have a legend be a reason you are a band. When I saw they had released their first studio produced EP, it was a matter of seconds that lapsed from the email to the purchase in Bandcamp, and I was not disappointed.  First up was a cover of Sage Christie's award winning so ..read more

DBT #342 Monday Morning Song "Kids"
Dave's Basement Tracks

On January 13, 2025, Kit Mayer put out an excellent set of 10 original songs; and while I was putting the release into Discogs yesterday I really fell in love with the last song, "Kids"  So when I thought about sharing just one song to start your morning, it was the first that came to mind.  The song remembers the days of growing up, and it has elements to all of Kit's early influences.  It has a harp intro that reminds you of a Springsteen, storytelling like Mark Knopfler, piano riffs that feel like Bob Seeger, and of course the raspy (but clear) vocals like Dylan.&nbs ..read more

Recently I decided that I would add audio videos in YouTube when I hit an artist or song that I really want to share, and yet they aren't in Bandcamp or YouTube.  Rick Thompson's "Store Bought Bread" was a recent addition that was already in DBT #268 Retail, Meet Me At the Mall  and DBT #112 Are You Hungry  I did one of those upload it and ask for permission and he gave me a thumbs up.  I did say if he had a favorite he would like in YouTube, and he said "A Hundred Years" so that so sounded like the next playlist, and it is.  First here's the bread song ..read more

Diving into Sarah King's recent release and writing the Review DBT #337  made me revisit my Whiskey Volumes One (DBT #160) and Two (DBT#199); needless to say while I was enjoying a scotch. So Sarah ends up with TWO Whiskey Songs one to start and end the playlist, let's enjoy this pour! 1) Whiskey Thinking - Sarah King While I was enjoying a scotch, I'm thinking about getting some Jack Daniels in the house. When It All Goes Down by Sarah King 2) Whiskey River / Stay a little longer - Willie Nelson How did this classic not make it into the first two volumes? 3) Whiskey - Tom T Hal ..read more

100 songs from 65 different albums that I own; and you know I'm just scratching the surface; but officially I will put a close to my 50th Anniversary nod to 1975.  Yes way on the bottom of this post you will find I've already selected 50 songs from 2000 to celebrate it's 25th Anniversary.  While my wife might be right that I spend way more time writing about these playlist, I'm so happy to share them and I hope I inspire you to find new music or perhaps do your own playlist. (If you do, share it with me.)  Yes I know my tastes are more folky / Americana than Hard Rock o ..read more

DBT #338 Monday Morning Song - Home Tonight

Ok Dave what inspired you to reactivate the Monday Morning Song?  Well I'm up early as I'm being interviewed by Ethos Green Power Cooperative about our installed panels, and I just got this wonderful song from a couple I first heard at SERFA and was thinking about them since we signed up for a back to back visit to SERFA since they moved it to KY and we hadn't visited that part of the world yet. Here's one of my memories of Admiral Radio at SERFA: I've been following them since and have found out they have committed their lives to music and walked away from their day jobs.  ..read more

DBT #337 When It All Goes Down - Sarah King
Dave's Basement Tracks

Ok it's been a while since I've highlighted or reviewed a single album but when my vinyl arrived this week for Sarah King's 2024 releases "When It All Goes Down"  That's when I settled down and actually listened carefully a couple times to the album and left me saying, "What the heck, why wasn't I listening to this album all summer"  Yes I had it since April 2024 and really hadn't listened to it.  That's one of the problems I have because I buy so much music, I tend to lose focus and can leave many songs without being played.  I've loved Sarah's music for a while witnesse ..read more

If were expecting Volume Four of the 1975 50th Anniversary, it'll be coming soon.  Playlists and posts are not governed by rules or norms, they are driven by my moods and desires of music inspiration.  You know blues is healing thing and when the current state of our government is driving you crazy; I reach for music for release.  That's what happened when I saw I just imported "Only Remembered" who I have in the library by three artists... oh my truly will Trump be remembered for imprisoning immigrants in Guantanamo?  Sad to even put that in writing, but I think B ..read more

Yes it's still January so let's come back to some of the favorite music that I've been listening to lately.  Many of you have visited Volume One and Two in my 50th Anniversary series; and this one starts the journey of both the albums that didn't make the first 50 cut, and songs that just had to be shared from albums in the first 50.  I do think being in the first 50 does mean a little more to me; but these songs and albums are significant so let's get going. Remember my pledge though, each song will have a Discogs link to my library and you already a link above to the first ..read more
