Former NFL tight end Aaron Thomas, who played for the New York Giants during the 1962-1970 seasons, passed away on April 26 at his home in Corvallis, Oregon, after a long illness. He was 86. Thomas played 116 regular-season games, etching himself in the team’s record books with 254 receptions (17th), 4,253 yards (14th), and 35 touchdowns (tied for sixth with Homer Jones and Del Shofner). The sturdy Thomas missed only seven games during his NFL career.  Thomas also had two receptions in the 1963 NFL Championship Game, in which the Giants lost 14-10 to the Chicago Bears. Time will tell if the New York Giants knocked their 2024 draft class out of the park, but count Kevin Hickey of The Sporting News among those who believe general manager Joe Schoen's third draft class is a hit. Hickey gave the overall class an "A," with three picks—receiver Malik Nabers (first round), safety Tyler Nubin (second round), and tight end Theo Johnson (fourth round)—getting "A" grades. Cornerback Andru Phillips (third round), running back Tyrone Tracy, Jr. (fifth round), and linebacker Darius Muasau (sixth round) all received "B" grades from Hickey. According to Hickey, among the Gi ..read more

Why New York Giants' RB Tyrone Tracy Jr Changed Positions Late in Collegiate Career

by Patricia Traina

Purdue assistant coach Lamar Conard has been coaching running backs for over seven years at the collegiate level, so he knows a thing or two about what a good running back candidate looks like. Yes, even when that candidate is a wide receiver, such as with Tyrone Tracy, Jr., the New York Giants’ fifth-round draft pick this year.  Tracy, who has one to full season of experience playing running back, agreed to switch on the suggestion of Conard, who believed that it would not only help the Boilermaker's offense but also make Tracy's path to the NFL easier.  “If you just watch ..read more

The last major part of the roster rebuilding season is over, of course, the NFL draft. Between now and the end of training camp, tweaks will be made due to performance or injuries. Oh, and there will be competition across the board; at least, that is what the coaches are planning.  So, let’s look at how the Giants post-draft depth chart stacks up. (Note: some of the undrafted free agents linked to the Giants may not have signed just yet, and are not included with the various position groups at this time.) Projected Starter: Daniel Jones ||  Depth: Drew Lock, Tommy DeVito Giants gener ..read more

Saquon Barkley: "I Never Got an Offer" from Giants

Former New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley has said in the past that he'll always have a special place in his heart for Big Blue. But Barkley is currently living in the moment, and that includes acclimating to his new life as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. However, some Giants fans are still deeply hurt by what they view as the mother of all betrayals by the man who was once the face of the franchise and whose No. 26 jersey was once the top-selling Giants jersey. Barkley, who signed a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, the Giants' most hated division rivals, still h ..read more

New York Giants UDFA Scouting Report: OT Kameren Stewart, Bowling Green

The New York Giants continue to add more offensive line talent post-draft, including Bowling Green left tackle Kameren Stewart.  After three seasons at Coastal Carolina, where he did not see much time on offense other than for special teams, he transferred to Bowling Green, where he earned the starting spot. He made 21 starts over his final two seasons in college.  With the Giants, he joins an extremely crowded offensive line room. Still, this is an interesting addition because it adds to an extremely diverse group of linemen in one room where there are not many legitimate left tackl ..read more

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has bigger things to worry about than whehter the team intended to replace him in the draft or even down the line. Like his rehab from a torn ACL, for instance. "I'm focused on what I can control, and that is preparing to play good football," Jones said during an appearance at the annual Gridiron Gala, where teammate Darius Slayton was honored. "So, (I'm) getting healthy, and I’ll be ready to go.” The Giants were heavily reported to be seeking a trade for the third overall spot in the draft to take North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye.  However, t ..read more

New York Giants UDFA Scouting Report: CB Alex Johnson, UCLA

The New York Giants prioritized defensive backs in the 2024 NFL Draft. They added Minnesota safety Tyler Nubin in the second round and Kentucky cornerback Andru Phillips in the third round.  After the draft, they also gave guaranteed money to UCLA cornerback Alex Johnson. At 6-1 and 190 pounds, Johnson is the prototypical size for the position.  At the UCLA pro day, he proved that he also has elite athleticism to go with that length. He ran a 4.48 forty-yard dash time and a seven-second three-cone drill. His 37-inch vertical and 10’7” broad jump were considered high marks compared to ..read more

Malik Nabers Propels, Sinks Giants' 2024 Draft Class Ranking

Malik Nabers' draft neighbors are being used to the New York Giants' benefit and detriment. SI.com's ranking of the 2024 NFC draft classes placed the Giants' group in 12th of 16, offering both praise and criticism for the decision to use the sixth overall pick on Nabers, a highly touted aerial playmaker out of LSU. "Perhaps the Giants should be ranked lower than 12th on this list, but they landed standout wideout Malik Nabers with their No. 6 pick," list curator Gilberto Manzano said. "Nabers has the makings of the next Odell Beckham Jr. or Ja’Marr Chase. Nabers’s explosiveness will expand the ..read more

Giants Find Daniel Jones Replacement in 'Super Early' 2025 Mock Draft
Sports Illustrated » New York Giants
by Geoff Magliocchetti

A "super early" 2025 mock draft from Jordan Reid features the New York Giants buying into one of their rivals' most time-honored strategies. Reid has the Giants take a page from the Philadelphia Eagles' book, having the Giants use their top pick from next spring on a Georgia Bulldog, namely quarterback Carson Beck. The most recent draft garnered a few headlines for the Giants passing on a thrower in the first round, opting to provide aerial support for incumbent Daniel Jons instead. Next time around, Reid argues, the Giants won't be so patient. "The Giants showed some faith in Daniel Jones rec ..read more
