Amanda MacGregor

It's officially a birthday bash when this homemade Funfetti cake shows up! This recipe tastes better than any boxed cake mix and makes the BEST addition to any celebration. Occasionally, I like to break out of my food allergy-restrictive baking and make something that I can't eat, but know it is for everyone else. When my sister was planning her husband's 30th birthday celebration, I volunteered to be in charge of baking the birthday cake. I knew I wanted to make a fun and festive treat to show him that your 30s can be just as exciting as your 20s. That is when I settled on a Funfetti cake ..read more

The Sunday Cookbook: Dairy-Free Hollandaise Sauce for an Eggs Benedict Breakfast
Amanda MacGregor

When I hear Sunday, I immediately think of my big Italian family gathering at my grandma Annie's house for dinner. When Amanda hears Sunday, she thinks about brunch. Even though I am more of a "Breakfast for Dinner" type of guy (better referred to as "Brinner"), I can see why brunch is so popular for most people. It's the perfect combination of breakfast and lunch foods. AD While you can opt for a dish to satisfy your sweet tooth, Amanda and I are more into the savory flare. That is why when I learned Amanda never had eggs benedict before, I was persistent in figuring out how to make a d ..read more

Eating in Banff with Food Allergies

Our honeymoon to Banff was one of the best vacations when it came to my food allergies. I thought no place would be able to top our vacations to California, but Alertba, Canada, you took the "food allergy eats" prize! Managing a corn allergy can be tricky here in the United States. Along with my canola and soy allergy, the type of oils a restaurant uses can be a problem, which is why we mostly stick to sushi or Italian, since 99% of Italian restaurants use or have olive oil. However, eating in Banff with food allergies was a whole new experience for me. We dined at a variety of restaurant ..read more

These cookies taste like little delicious bowls of chocolate chip oatmeal, especially when you enjoy them warmed up! I originally shared the first version of this recipe on Pinterest. To my surprise, I got quite a bit of interaction on it. People were commenting to let me know they tried it, any changes they made, and what they thought about it. You can view the original recipe here. Being that the first recipe originally included peanut butter, I wanted to create a version that was more allergy-friendly. These gluten-free banana oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are dairy-free, corn-free, nut-f ..read more

Sloppy Joes – a classic comfort food that brings back memories for many! This recipe is a fun twist on the traditional sandwich with a familiar, comforting element for all to enjoy! Growing up, Amanda's family made their Sloppy Joes from scratch, using ground turkey due to a red meat allergy, while my family enjoyed the convenience of the canned variety. But one thing remained constant – the joy of the delicious, messy goodness between two slices of bread. We wanted to create a healthier and more satisfying version of this nostalgic dish. Level up your classic apple pie with this Free-From Dutch Apple Pie. I thought there couldn't be anything better than a classic homemade apple pie. Then I learned about a Dutch Apple Pie and am forever hooked. Our Year In Review: 2023 Recap
Amanda MacGregor

I am optimistic about this new year. When the clock struck midnight and we collectively celebrated, I felt a sense of comfort as we welcomed in 2024. It was like greeting an old friend at the door. A friend you are excited to see. That is how ringing in the New Year felt for me. This feeling was such a relief to have, compared to when we entered 2023 and I was feeling pessimistic. When the clock struck midnight last year, we were lying horizontally on the couch, physically sick from catching COVID, and feeling completely exhausted, both mentally and symptomatically. After the mental strain th ..read more

Gluten-Free Herb Bread

There are two things we love most here: bread and quick and easy recipes. This tackles both of our loves. Our gluten-free herb bread recipe is bursting with flavor from herbs like parsley and oregano. This quick bread recipe is as easy as it is delicious. When we originally made this recipe, we used olive oil. After our trip to Banff, we discovered this little local shop, Evoolution, that sold premium olive oils and balsamic vinegar. Since our one trip to the store, we have been hooked and have now been ordering their oils online. I ended up getting Joe their holiday advent calendar, which h ..read more
