Starting with elementary school band, and evolving through choir, theater, and high school band, my passion for music has developed with me my entire life. I grew up playing video games, and I always remember being so drawn to the soundtracks of games, often forgoing the game to instead become enveloped in the sound. Whether it was the various 8-bit melodies of Nintendo games, or the composed arrangements found in some PC RPG games, I loved it. This drew me to band when I was in elementary school where I auditioned for the clarinet. It took me multiple years to find my niche, but when I decide ..read more

Written by Jose Huerta Internships & apprenticeships can play a crucial role in shaping the career of an individual. Not only are they vital in developing our skills as effective workers, but they also help us develop people skills and build important relationships that could prove vital in the future. I believe they help you learn about yourself and what exactly you want your career path and goals to look like. The way I see it, I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the opportunities that were given to me through these programs. My experience with intern/apprenticeships began in ..read more

Written by Morgan Heacox For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been a huge Disney fan. It mesmerizes me the way they are able to create real magic with the use of cutting edge technology. Disney has always been ahead of the game when it comes to using new applications of electrical engineering and lighting, which in turn  become the new normal. It gradually changed from being something I loved as a child to a my ultimate dream job. Everything in my life helps me get closer to achieving that goal by gaining knowledge through the experiences I have. I’ve learned the most by trial and e ..read more

Written by Linda Schulte Photovoltaic (PV) energy, also referred to as solar energy, is a clean, renewable source of power which converts sunlight into thermal or electrical energy.  The electrical energy produced through PV sources is then converted into electricity. There are three major types of solar energy:  passive, active, and thermal solar. Passive solar energy systems are built directly into a building’s blueprints (walls, windows, skylights) to improve heating and lighting efficiency. Active solar energy systems use a mechanism to collect and convert energy into a usable fo ..read more

What is there to lighting?  Picture it.  You walk into a room and can’t see, so you flip on a switch, right?  Or you walk into a public space like your office, or a store and the lights are just on.  You can see just fine so you think nothing of it and go about your business.   However, you certainly notice when there’s no light.  You might even notice when there’s too much and it hurts your eyes.  My intention is to help illuminate you, pun intended, on just how sophisticated lighting and lighting design can be.   My name is Reid Poling, and I am a lig ..read more
