The new musical “Lempicka” has announced a closing date of May 19.  “Lempicka” began previews on March 19 and officially opened on April 14 at the Longacre Theatre. Upon closing, the musical will have played 27 previews and 41 performances. Featuring a book by Matt Gould and Carson Kreitzer, music by Gould and lyrics by Kreitzer, “Lempicka” chronicles the life, art, politics and sexuality of Polish art-deco painter Tamara de Lempicka. “The Roommate” has been announced for a Broadway bow. Tony Award winner Patti LuPone and Golden Globe nominee Mia Farrow will star in the Broadway premiere of the 2015 play by Jen Silverman. The Tony Awards has announced its 2024 slate of non-competitive honorees. Wendall K. Harrington, Colleen Jennings-Roggensack, the Dramatists Guild Foundation and the Friedman Health Center will receive Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre. During the 49th week of the 2023-2024 season, Broadway’s box office saw a strong uptick in gross and attendance. For the week ending April 28, Broadway collectively earned $37,553,464. This represents an 8.4% increase from the previous week. 307,754 admissions were made to Broadway, filling seats in theaters to 92% capacity. The $37,600,000 box office total marks the third-highest-grossing week of the 2023-2024 season. Nominations for the 2024 Tony Awards were announced on April 30. The nominations in 26 competitive categories saw a slew of records broken, including particularly notable instances. Nominations have been announced for the 77th annual Tony Awards, honoring Broadway productions that opened during the 2023-2024 season. The Tony Awards has announced the return of the “Official Tony Awards Challenge.” A partnership with Audience Rewards, Broadway’s loyalty program, the challenge allows fans to predict the winners of the 2024 Tony Awards. The nominations for the 68th annual Drama Desk Awards have been announced. Kathleen Turner revealed the nominations on the morning of April 29 on NBC’s “New York Live.” As previously announced, the 2024 Drama Desk ceremony will be held on June 10 at NYU’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.
