Wallpaper Competition Winners 24.04 LTS
Ubuntu Studio

A Crowning Achievement As 24.04 LTS will represent the eighth Long-Term Support release of Ubuntu Studio and its 32nd release. For this release, we wanted to make sure we got some great representation from the community in terms of wallpaper, and while there weren’t as many entries as our previous competition, we were blown out of the way in terms of quality. While not every wallpaper could be included, all of the entries were solid, and narrowing it down to the best of the best was very difficult. Updates for February 2024
Ubuntu Studio
by eeickmeyer

As we get to the close of February 2024, we’re also getting close to Feature Freeze for Ubuntu Studio 2024 and, therefore, a closer look at what Ubuntu Studio 24.04 LTS will look like! Before we get to that, however, we do want to let everyone know that community donations are down. We understand these are trying times for us all, and we just want to remind everyone that the creation and maintenance of Ubuntu Studio does come at some expense, such as electricity, internet, and equipment costs. All of that is in addition to the tireless hours our project leader, Erich Eickmeyer, is putting into ..read more

Noble Numbat updates for February
Ubuntu Studio

Greetings Ubuntu Studio Community! The GREAT news is that the installer is now working! You can see from the screenshots below that, when you boot, you will be presented with a brand new installer that should be functional. Unfortunately, when you get to this screen, the branding is a little “off”: That said, for testing purposes, it should still function, but it does have some rough edges, so we do not recommend installing on a production machine. Here’s another screenshot: That said, per this discourse discussion, there will be more iterations coming on this installer. So stay tuned. We’v ..read more

Noble Numbat Updates for December
Ubuntu Studio

Greetings to our community! We’re working diligently on getting ready for the next Long-Term Support release of Ubuntu Studio, right now codenamed Noble Numbat, which will become 24.04 LTS in April. One of the things we are putting our energy into is moving away from the Ubiquity Installer, due to be sunset, and to the modern Subiquity installer, which has a technical caveat: it’s text-only. However, the Ubuntu Desktop team came up with a wonderful solution: Ubuntu Desktop Installer. It’s a flutter-based frontend to Subiquity which was released as the default installer experience for Ubuntu D ..read more

In consideration of some ongoing issues, we thought we’d give some insight into a few things going on right now. Upgrades to 23.10 Unfortunately, as of this writing, upgrades to 23.10 have not yet been enabled due to a blocking bug in the release upgrader. The fix is in place, but must be manually verified by the team in charge of the release upgrader only after the new development cycle opens up for 24.04. For more details, please see the Ubuntu Discourse. Closure of Matrix Rooms Due to the disabling of Libera’s Matrix to IRC bridge, we had to make the hard decision to close the Matrix room ..read more

The Ubuntu Studio team is pleased to announce the beta release of Ubuntu Studio 23.10, codenamed “Mantic Minotaur”. While this beta is reasonably free of any showstopper installer bugs, you may find some bugs within. This image is, however, mostly representative of what you will find when Ubuntu Studio 23.10 is released on October 12, 2023. Special Notes The Ubuntu Studio 23.10 disk image (ISO) exceeds 4 GB and cannot be downloaded to some file systems such as FAT32, and may not be readable when burned to a DVD. For this reason, we recommend downloading to a compatible file system. When creat ..read more

A Message from the Project Lead
Ubuntu Studio
by eeickmeyer

Dear Ubuntu Studio Community, I want to thank you all for the amazing generosity that you all showed when we asked for financial contributions back in May. We were able to raise over $1,000 USD since, which was a humongous help. I know that my family and I are beyond grateful. That said, circumstances for my family and I haven’t changed that much and are likely not to change. For safety reasons, my wife and I have chosen to pull our son from his regular public school and are having him do online school, which means that I must stay at home with him. This does, however, mean that I have more t ..read more
