Pretend Play… Why It’s So Important!
Delta Gymnastics Blog

Why be a dinosaur or a fairy at gymnastics anyway? Pretend play and development go hand in hand. Pretend play or role playing is a vital part of children’s learning. It develops abstract thought, language & mathematical concepts and allows children to explore relationships.  Most importantly, it provides an opportunity for children to explore who they are and what they can be in their world, in a safe, playful way. Being a big, stomping, scary dinosaur – even for just a class or two – allows children to explore what it feels like to be strong, loud and powerful! At Jnr Gym Kids w ..read more

Who’s ready for a roaring great time with our Dinosaur theme? Being a big, strong dinosaur – even for just a class – allows us to explore some great powerful play at gymnastics. Big strong dinosaurs make for great visual cues for our Jnr GymKids to explore body awareness, gymnastics shapes (in particular wide shapes) and skills. Read more on sensory processing and why proprioception is so important for children here! The long tailed Brontosaurus will encourage beautiful knee scale balances as children extend their back leg (or should we say, their tail!). Transferring weight evenly to thre ..read more

The colder weather is bringing a Winter Wonderland to Jnr Gym Kids with our timely winter theme! Our winter theme will see our little ones focusing on holding their snow ball tuck shape all over the gym as we explore & build on a wide range of movement. To be able to hold our body in a tight small tuck, whether hanging, in rotation or when jumping, uses arms, legs and core muscles. At Jnr Gym Kids we call our tuck shape our tap tap tuck to reinforce holding one hand on each shin without crossing arms over.  This encourages core, thigh and arm muscles to work to hold the shape ..read more

Our Level 4 – 6 My Team Rules competition took place on Saturday 7th & 8th May, kick starting the season for our Aspire ALP gymnasts. My Team Rules has a unique and fun format, whereby gymnasts are allocated a team and given a coloured hair ribbon to indicate which team they represent.  This is a great chance for the girls to compete alongside other clubs, make new friends and a real team building opportunity. My Team Rules is one of our favourite events to kick off the season. Gymnasts are awarded for team places, artistry and team spirit and have the chance to win special appa ..read more
