I’ve been investing for the last 13+ years. In 2018, I quit my corporate job to invest full-time. I currently invest for my family and close friends.
Last year, I’ve started a smaller portfolio (to scratch my “itchy backside”) dedicated to a dividend growth strategy.
Btw, I use Interactive Brokers to invest this portfolio.
This is a work in progress. But I thought it’s interesting to share with my DT readers who want to learn how to build a dividend growth portfolio from scratch – regardless of whether the market goes up, or down.
Now, the 1-year mark is an important milestone. A ..read more

I wrote a 73-page guide for Top 10 Singapore dividend stocks to buy in 2024 (Ultimate Guide).
Spent the last couple months “deep-dive” into the corners of the market.
DT readers in my DT Compound Letters loved it.
Here’s my top 10 stock picks for 2024:
1. An “asset-light” recruiter
2. Luxury retail giant
3. A highly “capital efficient” supermarket operator
4. Buying a safe haven for less than a dollar
5. CapitaLand’s most overlooked brand
6. Buying this quiet Singapore dividend payer
7. Victim stock with 6.6% yield
8. How to buy Singapore’s leading defence contractor

15 years ago, I bought my first stock.
That’s when I got serious about investing. It was the best decision to date.
At first, I had to “ctrl+c, ctrl+v” every number from the financial statements to a spreadsheet.
I tracked the last 10 years of company data — analyzed financial ratios. It was painful.
I learnt if you want to be good at investing, know your numbers.
But to master investing, you need good tools to help you.
To get started, Here’s some free financial data tools I use to break down investing insights, uncover potential stock ideas and compound my portfolios.

These 44 investors taught me about investing.
More than a CFA or business school.
I spent the last 13 years following them. And I’ve compiled my top list of favourite investors (books, podcasts, letters) here.
Perhaps, you might find them useful:
“Old School” Value Investing
Benjamin Graham, Father of Value Investing
Walter Schloss, “net-net” investing
Irving Kahn, oldest living active investor

US office Singapore REITs are trading at jaw-dropping dividend yields. I mean, it’s one thing to be attracted to a 7-8% dividend yield across Singapore REITs.
But man, Prime US REIT today trades at 44% yield, while Keppel Pacific Oak US REIT trades at 24% yield.
Are their dividend yields worth the risk?
I was also thinking if it’s worth adding to my Diligence Stock Watchlist.
Let’s find out.
What happened so far?
The thing is, COVID-19 has forced many people wanting to work from home in the US. This is especially so with bigger cities like New York, Los A ..read more

I’ve love to share this with you.
I just got back from my Hong Kong trip last month. And it was absolutely amazing.
As an investor, I simply loved the vibe — strong entrepreneurial culture, great food and plenty of investment opportunities.
Now, much of what I share here are my personal observations and conversations with fund managers, brokers and company management. And not scientific.
Though I believe it’s still helpful in putting context to the investment data and reports I often read on my computer.
Met one of ARA Group’s Hong Kong-listed REIT deputy ..read more

Okay – technically, not a Singapore REIT. Keppel Infrastructure Trust is a business trust.
What’s the difference? Well, unlike a REIT, a business trust is not limited to owning properties but can own most types of assets. A business trust doesn’t have a gearing ratio limit and isn’t required to distribute 90% of its profits as dividends.
That aside, I’ve received quite a few queries — both from readers and my Diligence members — on Keppel Infrastructure Trust. And I finally got down to writing this.
The last time I wrote about it was here.

Over the weekend, I was invited to speak at Invest Fair 2023.
I spoke about one thing many investors don’t pay much attention to… how to build a dividend portfolio.
(Managed to get a photo with Shanison Lin, CEO and founder of InvestingNote)
I mean, growing dividends isn’t just looking at yield.
Over my 13 years investing, what I‘ve noticed is investors tend to have their own rules of buying (many get from their friends, families and brokers).
Some common rules include…
“I only buy Singapore banks”
“Just stick to government-linked companies…”
“I only want 5% yield…”

This article was contributed by Yoman and first published on 15 Jun 2023.
I walked down memory lane recently, largely because of a sad event happening within my family earlier this year that got me emotionally overwhelmed. As I am reviewing the multiple twists and turns in my life, I reconnected with many old contacts on LinkedIn, one of whom was my line manager when I first started my working life in the civil service some 20 years ago.
While he might not be the most popular boss amongst colleagues, I have fond memories working with him because he gave me many opportunities and guidance when ..read more
