31st October 22 Housing measures to protect poultry and captive birds from avian influenza are being extended and will be in force across England from 00:01 on Monday 7 November 2022. So over the past few weeks, a number of my hens are going through the moult – not a pretty sight but give them a few weeks and they will have lovely new feathers starting to grow Don’t panic when your chickens start losing their feathers. Moulting is a normal and natural process of shedding feathers and re-growing them that all chickens go through. The best thing you can do to help your chickens through the moult is to feed extra protein feed or treats – sunflower seeds, mealworms and add some poultry spice to their feed or tonic to their water. We have had such a busy Summer – with chicken deliveries in June, July, and August – all of which sold out in a number of weeks. To everyone going away and needing their hens looked after so our hen hotels have been fully booked all through the Summer with not just hens but we had 3 bunnies we looked after too. We even had to extend to accommodate the extra Holiday visitors… So having had the busiest summer for a while we are now taking a well-deserved break (just for a few days) 7th -12th September. Wow what an amazing evening! Yay … I have finally got the official photos from the awards evening so can now update my blog – here we go … It all started on the 31st August when we submitted our entry for the Spelthorne Means Business Awards.
