We’re delighted to announce an extraordinary release this time. We’ve not only put an enormous amount of work into the server itself, but our Storm Library & Storm Player were rebuilt from the ground up too. On top of that, we’re also publishing a dedicated Demo page, where anyone can test our server application or Library/Player APIs. Let’s get into details… Storm Streaming Server 1.3.0 While there aren’t any new features, memory and thread management were greatly improved, reducing RAM usage by 30%. We have also enhanced our DVR functionality for iOS (HLS/LL-HLS). It works much smoother ..read more

Designing infrastructure for video streaming – hardware

We already know what kind of software we need to support video streaming. It’s time to talk about the hardware architecture required for our service to function efficiently and reliably. As in the case of software, we will first deal with the streaming device. We already know that it can be virtually any electronical device, but there are a few essential aspects to keep in mind. Performance First, it doesn’t matter whenever we are dealing with a smartphone or a PC/MAC computer – it’s the performance that is important. Most modern devices based on either ARM or x86 architecture have dedicated i ..read more

Designing infrastructure for video streaming – software
Storm Streaming Blog
by Patrycja Dziedzic

If we want to design an efficient infrastructure for streaming for our website or application, we must first understand what it should consist of. The division that I will present here concerns the software layer primarily. This, in turn, is scaled on the hardware layer, which we will discuss later. Streaming application The entire streaming process begins with the streaming application installed on a regular phone, PC / Mac computer, and professional workstation. For some protocols, such as WebRTC, the streaming application can be, for example, the Internet browser itself. There are also many ..read more

How to plan a service based on video streaming?
Storm Streaming Blog
by Szymon Polok

The real-time video streaming service itself must not, of course, “hang” in the air. We need a platform that will provide our clients with convenient access to it. Today we have basically three options that can be combined with each other or gradually supplemented. Classic website The first option is, of course, a classic website or service in the case of more complex structures. Undoubtedly, it is technologically the simplest, but also the cheapest option, which is a good bridgehead to start your business. How should such a website be designed to fulfill its role well? This is obviously a top ..read more

Another update release. This time we’ve concentrated a little bit on latency. Thanks to the inbuilt RTMP server, we’ve managed to go as low as 0.3 sec with latency (via OBS). For clusters, this value will be closer to 0.5 seconds, which ain’t bad for TCP-IP-based protocol. We’ve also tweaked a little bit the secure-token functionality. Full list of new features reduced latency to 0.3 for RTMP-based streams (with inbuilt server), reworked security token functionality, Full list of bug fixes issues related to cluster connections were resolved, The post Storm Streaming Server release 0.8 appe ..read more
