How EXPECTATIONS get in your way.

You will never exceed your expectations (not for long anyway). That statement resonates with me. I have come to learn that my expectations are how I self-sabotage. I see it in others too (heck, it’s always easier to see self-sabotage in others more than in ourselves). Here’s how different types of EXPECTATIONS can wreak havoc on our WorkLife Experience. 1. TOO LOW You are constantly envisioning what could go wrong and believing that if shit could hit the fan…it will. Stories from past negative experiences keep you safe and comfortable from taking risk in the here and now….which reduces ..read more

Most people do NOT come to me to elevate WorkLife Synergy. (insert "wow Trisha is a great sales person" thought). People/leaders/tired humans DO come to me to improve focus at work, increase their career-path satisfaction, reduce overwhelm of managing home and work responsibilities and of course, to gain clarity on what their next steps could be to increase SUCCESS. Lack of clarity and focus, career dissatisfaction and overwhelm are symptoms of misalignment between WHAT WE WANT, WHAT WE THINK WE WANT and HOW WE LIVE OUR EVERYDAY. WorkLife Synergy (living life better) is the end game bu ..read more

Deanne came to me because she was deeply frustrated with her career. She felt overwhelmed most of the time as she juggled two kids, their activities and managing a home. As a single mother she felt alone in the journey of life and living. While she enjoyed her role and work, her boss was distant and rarely communicated beyond emails asking her to take on more reports. Since covid she has been working from home which was nice at first but recently has become another source of disconnect and mounting, unclear, expectations. Deanne came to me because she was deeply frustrated with her car ..read more

Every true entrepreneur knows ideas are exciting and full of possibility. So exciting! So shiny! And then the roller coaster ride begins. Often this energy cycle can lead business owners to feel overwhelmed, trapped, unproductive and unfulfilled. My role as a Business Coach is to help you design the roller coaster and not just ride it. It is possible. Let’s make sure your mental framework is in alignment with the realities of being in business.  In the deep waters of business development and operational growth these two truths can get lost in the chaos. Take a read, get connected ..read more

Ok it’s 9:56 pm PST and I am on my bed writing you this note after a fun but long evening at the skating rink for my oldest daughters Ringette practice. Baby Vinlee (who is a year now….can you believe it?) drunk walked and crawled his way to all kinds of gross things on floor while I attempted to have a visit with fellow adults as we cheered our kids on. OK. That’s a lie. I wasn’t really watching my kid on the ice at all. But in my defence I was managing crazy baby and eating concession french fries. LIFE IS A BALL OF CHAOS AND CRAZY. At least for me it is and from what I hea ..read more

Sink or Swim Leadership

When I was a child, I was aware of, and even witnessed a rather perverse method some fathers employed to teach their children to swim.  The well-meaning dad would hold the hand of their young child and walk them to the end of the dock, or wade with them into progressively deeper water, and then they would pick the often-unsuspecting child up and throw them into the lake.  The belief was that the child, in fighting to avoid drowning, would somehow “learn” how to swim.   I am not aware of any child drowning from this experience, so I suppose that the technique worked ..read more

“The mind is not a vessel that needs filling, but wood that needs igniting.” —Plutarch  Back when I was young, hungry, and brimming with ego (my university days), I completed a Philosophy of Education course which examined two opposing points of view about how people learn. On the one hand, I was introduced to the concept that people are “empty vessels” into which a teacher can pour their knowledge and solutions to problems. At the same time I was presented with the opposing idea that people have intrinsic qualities and abilities to learn and grow, and they only require encouragement and ..read more

Tips to Carry on in Covid Chaos.

Right now I am hiding in my room—trying to write this 500 word overview of how Covid has impacted my biz/work/life experience. I am truly hiding. If any of my 4 children sense I am actually trying to get something done they will raise their heads…sniff to the wind…and HUNT ME DOWN. “Mom watch my new flip.” “Mom I’m hungry and bored.” “Mom can I have a sleepover with six of my friends?” Wait. The fourth child. The 2.5 yr old. He is quiet. So quiet. This can only mean the five minutes it has taken me to type these words was enough time to a) find a way out of the house and is now running ..read more

Engineering a Human Empowered Experience

I was 15 years old sitting at a round table with seven empty chairs, in the back of a massive ballroom, under the veil of darkness as our family business A/V team prepared for a production test run of the opening sequence.  “We roll in 5,4,3,2,1..” I heard a sound engineer say and within seconds lights gently roused from sleep just enough to create a space of warm whites gently guiding my eyes to the stage. The screens lit up with the produced video welcome as….oh my favourite part….thunderous drums and accompanying harmonics engulfed the air and stirred my soul.  To this day ..read more
