Pierre Toussaint, born on June 27, 1766, was a formerly enslaved Haitian-American hairdresser and philanthropist, declared Venerable by Pope John Paul II in 1996. Judge says Manhattan Haitian parade can go on, payments decision still pending

NEW YORK—The New York City Haitian Heritage Parade may proceed after a Manhattan Supreme Court judge lifted a temporary order to stop it on Tuesday, allowing a faction of the event’s organizers to move forward.
