I have written several blog posts about reading OCD, and for whatever reason, those tend to be some of my most popular posts. My guess would be that reading OCD is pretty common, and it is not talked or written about nearly enough in the OCD community. I would love to say that I am ..read more

As someone with OCD, it often feels like the weight of the world is on my shoulders. I feel responsible for everyone and everything’s safety. I must prevent accidents, but more than that if I were to cause injury, that would be the worst case of all. To OCD, it doesn’t matter if the harm ..read more

Last night at my work at the public library, we were down four staff members. Three had called in sick, and one was assigned tasks, but wasn’t actually on the schedule. By the time we realized, it was too late to call anyone else for help. That left four of us, for the entire adult ..read more

Sometimes I get so anxious I make myself sick to my stomach. That happened this weekend/week because my partner and I adopted a dog. Her name is Maisy. She is very cute and a good girl. And honestly, it’s going really well. Even my cat seems to be adjusting just fine. But it is still ..read more

More so, I’m still taken aback by OCD’s creativity, or my creativity I guess, since it is coming from my brain. OCD can be stereotypical, but more often, OCD can be ..read more

For years in therapy, it seems like the main message was all compulsions are bad and the ultimate goal is zero compulsions. I don’t think any therapists ever actually said this, but that’s how it often came across. OCD was to be fought at all times so you were the one “driving the bus” instead ..read more

I recently realized that I have separation anxiety. I was a bit surprised when it clicked, not by having yet another form of anxiety, but surprised that I still have this one as an adult. My separation anxiety was not news to my partner, who apparently has known this the entire time we’ve been dating ..read more

This is not exactly news to anyone well-versed in OCD and its treatment. But gosh darn it, if I don’t keep checking, hoping the compulsion will work this time. Backstory: I got a haircut. And it was significant. I tend to only get one haircut a year, so I do a giant chop each spring ..read more

This might be controversial, but I don’t think exposure is always the answer to OCD. I know we preach it as the gold-standard treatment for OCD, and I’m not denying that. Research supports that OCD gets much more manageable with ERP (exposure and response prevention) treatment. I just don’t think when stuck in an anxiety ..read more
