Single malt Scotch whisky brand The GlenAllachie has launched the seventh edition of its 10 Year Old Cask Strength bottling. The very first batch of this 10-year-old bottling was released four years ago, meaning that The GlenAllachie releases approximately two editions of this annually.
Each edition of The GlenAllachie 10 Year Old Cask Strength has the same basic formula, being bottled at cask strength, sporting a natural colour, and non-chill filtered. However, the casks used vary from edition to edition, leading to some batches bein ..read more

Single malt Scotch whisky brand Kilchoman has unveiled a limited edition Madeira cask-matured bottling, appropriately dubbed the Kilchoman Madeira Cask Matured. The firm intended to release this expression late last year, but a bottle shortage (of all things) put a stop to its plans. Fortunately, every single bottle has since been filled and shipped out.
And if you’re wondering, yes, the bottle and box do indeed state “Year Released: 2021” and “2021 Edition” respectively. A result of the delay and something that collectors and Kilchoman fans will probably chuckle at ..read more

Among all of Scotland’s whisky-producing regions, Campbeltown is the smallest, even in 2022. However, this wasn’t always the case, with over thirty distilleries pumping out the water of life during the 18th century. Various industries grew alongside whisky, with Campbeltown’s location playing a vital role in its success.
Unfortunately, the rest is history, as they say. The region is now home to just three distilleries: Springbank, Glengyle, and Glen Scotia. On the bright side, their bottlings are doing just fine, with Springbank’s expressions even being a hit among collectors. Furtherm ..read more

There’s no question at all that wood plays a vital role in the whisky production process. Otherwise, you’d just be drinking what is essentially vodka. As competition between whisky brands around the world heats up, having a great wood management programme goes a long way in distinguishing your expressions from the rest of the pack.
And because of said competition, brands are willing to step out of their comfort zone and experiment with various cask types or higher quality barrels. Ex-bourbon barrels and sherry casks will never lose their place in the maturation w ..read more

Bourbon whiskey brand Maker’s Mark has attained B Corp Certification, being the first distillery in Kentucky, USA to receive this mark. The company earned an overall B Impact Score of 82.4, which met the qualifying score of 80 points. For additional reference, 50.9 is the median score that ordinary businesses receive after being assessed.

On 1st October 2021, Bruichladdich unveiled the 12th series of its super heavily peated Octomore line of single malt Scotch whiskies. Unfortunately, it would take a while before the three expressions made their way to Singapore. Better late than never as they say, because they’re finally available for purchase in the Lion City.
What’s more, Bruichladdich simultaneously released its latest Black Art bottling alongside the Octomore 12s. Dubbed Bruichladdich Black Art Edition 09.1, this unpeated single malt Scotch bears an age statement of 29 years old. It has the distinction of containin ..read more

In late-January 2021, Beam Suntory unveiled two virtual tours of its Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries. At that point…and right now even, it didn’t appear that tourists would be allowed into Japan. What better way to drum up some support for the two distilleries and sneak into the prospective itineraries of future tourists?
Unfortunately, as I discovered throughout my tour of the Yamazaki distillery, you weren’t touring the production facility itself. You were only being brought around the distillery’s visitor centre. On the bright side, it was a meticulous recreation and you could hon ..read more

Fun fact: The distillery actually started operating a full three months before the official announcement was made. Expect its first single malt whisky to hit shelves (or bar backs at least) in 2024.

A very happy new year to everyone! As we dust off 2021 (or 2020 Part 2, as I like to call it) and kickstart 2022, there’s no better time to look back…and look forward. COVID-19 might still be a problem for many countries around the world, but Omicron appears to be the last variant of concern. Fingers crossed that the end of January brings better news.
Prior to this stumbling block, the world was steadily finding its way back to normalcy. Singapore’s safe distancing measures didn’t change much, but it was establishing an increasing number of vaccinated travel lanes with other countries ..read more
