Word from the morning skate in Dallas is that Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy is shaking up the Golden Knights lines, defensive pairings and goalie as a remedy for their recent struggles. Coach Bruce Cassidy said Adin Hill will start Game 5. “He’s an experienced guy who has come into this situation before,” Cassidy said. According to the Athletic’s Jesse Granger, Adin Hill was the first goalie off the ice at the morning skate, suggesting he will start. Logan Thompson started the first four games of the series, but Hill was the goalie last year when the Golden Knight won their first Stanley Cup. The ..read more

Looking to defend their Stanley Cup championship, the Vegas Golden Knights moved boldly at the NHL trade deadline to add three key pieces. Suddenly, all three of those pieces are delivering puzzling results. pic.twitter.com/UjwUmysazj — x-Vegas Golden Knights (@GoldenKnights) April 30, 2024 Defenseman Noah Hanifin was accounting for three points (1-2-3) in the two Vegas wins at Dallas to open the Western Conference first-round series between the Golden Knights and Stars. Hanifin was pointless in two losses at T-Mobile Arena. He was minus-two in Monday’s 4-2 defeat by Dallas. Center Tomas Her ..read more

Everyone believes that defense wins championships, but occasionally coaches must preach on the value of offense in a tight series. Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy is in that position going into Game 4 of the Golden Knights’ playoff series against the Dallas Stars. “We are going to have to bring more offense if we expect to win (Game 4),” Cassidy said. Cassidy did qualify his statement by saying that’s true only if the series is going to be played like Game 3 when the Golden Knights weren’t effective defensively against the Stars as they were in the opening two games in Dallas. The Stars made adjustm ..read more

Thompson Proving Golden Knights Made Correct Goalie Choice
Vegas Hockey Now

It was easy to be somewhat puzzled when Logan Thompson was skating out as the Game 1 starter for the Vegas Golden Knights in this spring’s playoffs. After all, Adin Hill was the one backstopping Vegas to the Stanley Cup title last spring. Any doubts that they’d made the corect choice likely were subsiding as the Golden Knights were racing to a 2-0 opening-round series lead with consecutive wins at Dallas. And even as the Stars were getting on the board with a 3-2 overtime verdict in Game 3, it wasn’t like the naysayers were given an avenue to say ‘I told you so.’ Despite the loss, Logan Thomp ..read more

Blunt. Pointed. Direct. Vegas Golden Knights coach Bruce Cassidy didn’t mince words in explaining why his team lost Game 3 of their playoff series 3-2 Saturday in overtime to the Dallas Stars. “We just didn’t have that level we needed tonight to win the playoff hockey game,” Cassidy said. He wasn’t done discussing his team’s fails. “The start was unacceptable,” he said. The Stars out-shot Vegas 18-7 in the first period and claimed a 1-0 lead. The Stars had 33 shots on goal after two periods. They led 2-0 by the 5:25 mark on the second period before the Golden Knights found a higher competitive ..read more

Golden Knights vs. Stars Game 3 Preview: Hague Still Out

Injured defenseman Nicolas Hague has not been able to practice, and has been ruled out for tonight’s Vegas Golden Knights Game 3 against the Dallas Stars. Veteran Alec Martinez is filling his spot. The Michigan native played 15:20 and was not on the ice for the one goal against. Defensive depth is one of the Golden Knights’ strengths. Their defensive coverage has been strong over the first two games. Vegas only gave up 21 shots on goal in Game 2. The Golden Knights ranked 12th in goals-against in the regular-season, but they have raised the efficiency of their defensive work in the postseason ..read more

In the salary cap era, NHL teams often find themselves trying to plug holes in the playoffs with inexperienced, young players. The Vegas Golden Knights feel fortunate that they can deal with Nicolas Hague’s day to day lower body injury by replacing him with a three-time Stanley Cup champion. Martinez, a regular on last year’s Stanley Cup team, played 15:30 in the Vegas 3-1 win against the Dallas Stars in Game 2. He was paired with Zach Whitecloud. Martinez won two Cups with the Los Angeles Kings before winning one last season with the Golden Knights. “Losing Haguer was unfortunate,” Vegas goal ..read more

Every time Jonathan Marchessault takes the ice he reminds the Vegas Golden Knights how much they need him and why they may not be able to afford to keep him. Marchessault won the Conn Smythe Trophy last year by leading the offensive charge in the Vegas Golden Knights’ march to their first Stanley Cup Championship. Wednesday, Marchessault continued his impressive postseason production with a goal and an assist to help Vegas post a 3-1 triumph against the Vegas Golden Knights. With his two points, pending UFA Marchessault now has a 12-game playoff points streak, dating to last season. The No. 8 ..read more

The Vegas Golden Knights have proven to be trend setters since entering the NHL in 2017. They’re at again this spring in the Stanley Cup playoffs. When the postseason got underway Monday, Logan Thompson was between the posts as Vegas beat the Dallas Stars 4-3. No surprise there. During the regular season, Thompson would lead the Golden Knights in games (46), starts (42), wins (25) and GAA (2.70). His victory Monday, though, was his first-ever in Stanley Cup action. He’ll be back between the posts for Game 2 on Wednesday. Marchessault on Logan Thompson: I'm definitely happy for him. Like ever ..read more

The addition of Tomas Hertl through a trade with the San Jose Sharks has powered the Vegas Golden Knights’ power play like he was a lithium-ion battery Since Hertl entered the Vegas lineup, the Golden Knights are nine-for-17 (52.9%) with the man advantage. That includes the two power play goals, one of them netted by Hertl, in Game 1 against the Dallas Stars.  Before Hertl’s arrival, the Vegas power play ranked 21st in the NHL at 18.6%. Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy says Hertl has given his team the net-front presence that they have lacked on the power play. He’s 6-foot-3, and boasts excellen ..read more
