Here I am – back from a little hiatus. It’s not like I haven’t been sewing (even though admittedly not as much as before …), I even have taken pics of three or four garments. I just never got around posting them on the blog or Instagram. Life is busy and I don’t want to promise too much, but hopefully you will see me a bit more often from now on. A few weeks ago I sewed something I meant to sew for a long time: the Closet Core pouf, filled with all my scraps from sewing. I always feel bad for throwing away scraps, and I can’t keep everything, either. Sewing a pouf (preferably with scraps, too!) and filling it with things you’d otherwise throw away seemed like a perfect solution. If you’re active on Instagram, you have definitely seen all the gorgeous Fibre Mood patterns popping up on Instagram every other month. And chances are, if you’re like me, that every time you thought: “I should definitely try Fibre Mood myself!” – and never did, since our sewing lists are never-ending. I have mentioned this several times already, but it’s still true: I like testing and sewing samples, since it makes it easier for me to prioritize sewing. So when Adrianna from Hey June asked for testers for her Fairmount Shaket I really wanted to join. But – a shacket? What on earth is a shacket (shirt + jacket!) and do I need one? Since I loved my first make with a pattern from Schultz Apparel (the Minna Dress over here), I always wanted to try another one, and after sewing) my Liberty Blouse I wanted to use the other Liberty Tana lawn in my stash, too. As I couldn’t really see this fabric as a blouse and wasn’t very motivated to sew a dress, my search was focused on skirts. I managed to get some sewing time and decided to sew a sample for the latest Hello Heidi fabric collection. Hello Heidi has in recent years had several floral fabric collections and I sewed samples for a couple of them – Flur, Flurina, Anne, and now Flora. Flora is a collection printed on silky smooth cotton sateen and consists of three prints in three colourways each: Garland, Leaves and Iris, each of them in the colours lilac, blue and henna. I missed sewing! But now, two months after the birth of our baby girl, I finally finished my first make. And I didn’t sew just anything – I started with a pattern and a fabric I really, really love: Back in spring 2020 I bought a beautiful blue Liberty of London tana lawn fabric at Hello Heidi Fabrics. (It’s not available there anymore, but it’s called Capel Tana Lawn and available other places.) Three years ago I wrote this blog post, showing you the velvet maternity dress I made. I was about a month away from my due date with our son, and I really cherish those photos. And here we are again, a little more than three years later, waiting for another addition to our family. You might already have seen my new Yates Coat by Grainline Studio over on my Minerva profile – but today I want to share some more pics, as well as more information about fitting, as well as fitting pictures. I made the Yates Coat from a Minerva sewing kit, i.e. one of the kits available from Minerva that include all the fabric and notions you need. I was greatly intrigued by this checkered wool fabric but also a little afraid of it ending up being “too much”. I must say, I have been rather pleased with my sewing recently. I sew more, I blog more, I manage to take on some projects or tests – and I have been sewing a lot with fabrics from my stash. I have collected quite a lot of fabric during the last few years, and since I have to order most of my fabric, that’s okay. I love being able to go through my stash and to find just the right fabric and the right amount, in my own little “store”. But my stash has been growing a little too much.
