“One dream, one soul…one prize, one goal,” – the apt opening lyrics of Queen’s ‘A Kind of Magic’ and today in Barcelona it was NYYC American Magic that unveiled their third AC75 boat but keeping much mystery and intrigue to themselves. And rightly so, the boat is a beauty – a sculpted form whose almost scow-bow detailing would not look out of place at New York’s Guggenheim Museum setting off a super-powerful hull form with detailing aplenty. © Job Vermeulen/ America’s Cup Back in the deep, classy navy blue, this is Patriot 2.0, a logical but radical step-on from the boat that many believed had ..read more

New Zealand driver Peter Burling is riding a wave of momentum heading into Bermuda after a triumphant Christchurch event. Not only did the Kiwis beat the fleet to win the event in front of home fans, but the victory, combined with a disastrous event for the Aussies, saw them take the overall season lead for the first time since Chicago. It was a weekend of two halves, with the cancellation of Race Day One leading into a fast and furious second day of racing which, Burling describes as ‘the best in SailGP history’. It culminated in New Zealand winning their home event in front of their euphoric ..read more

35th Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta Overall
Nautic Magazine
by Johana Nomm

With perfect trade wind conditions today, each start was flawless and the yachts all aimed for the first mark six miles SSE in a comfortable close reach for the last day of fleet racing at the 35th Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta. Cassiopeia II selflessly saved the day by hauling in a long fishing net floating on the surface close to the first mark so that it did not affect other competitors. Their actions were indicative of what the regatta is all about, safety and goodwill coming before competition. The Cannon Race is always spectacular as the boats reach out and back allowing the crews the op ..read more

Alinghi Red Bull Racing Pushes Forward with BoatOne Commissioning in Tricky Conditions
Nautic Magazine
by Steve Cornwell

Blue skies, flat water, temperate air and a light breeze that barely registered above 8 knots made Saturday afternoon in Barcelona a tricky prospect for Alinghi Red Bull Racing’s continued commissioning of BoatOne. In conditions that would have been un-sailable in ‘BoatZero’, they made the best of it in the AC75 they’ve internally nicknamed as the ‘Batmobile’ that certainly appears to have all the firepower of its comic creation. Light, nimble and very responsive, Alinghi Red Bull Racing was towed around the immediate vicinity off the harbour, looking for breeze lines and when they came it wa ..read more

Insights from Emirates Team New Zealand’s AC75 Commissioning Phase
Nautic Magazine
by Andrei Dragos

The over-riding take-away from the early commissioning phase of the new Emirates Team New Zealand AC75 is one of smoothness personified. As the sailing team wind up through the commissioning gears – and even with legacy foils – what we’re seeing is a boat flying at a consistency both in a straight-line and through the manoeuvres with an ease of purpose and simplified execution. The almost unseen power unit is delivering from the aft pods what looks like plenty of control and already we’re seeing sail shape manipulation, perhaps through early pre-sets, that makes boat-handling look a cinch. Go ..read more
