Robert Burns’ “Auld Lang Syne” is the song best described as the one nobody knows. It was published in 1788 about 6 months after Burns died. The song quickly became a Scottish custom. The traditional use being to bid farewell to the old year at the stroke of midnight on Hogmanay (New Years Eve).
