That final layer in a home is so important, and can also be the hardest for us when we’re designing for our clients. The reason being it’s this last layer that puts your individual stamp on a home. It’s so personal, it should reflect you and tell everyone who comes into your home a little bit about you. When you look around and you’re surrounded by things you love, some of which may have memories or meanings attached, this is what makes your space so enjoyable and special for you to be in. “Disco Shoes’ by Brian Culy | photo: Florence Charvin Out of all the elements, art is by far the most ch ..read more

We recently finished an amazing kitchen/dining room project. Despite having to deal with lockdowns, supply delays and shortages, it was a fantastic project to work on. It helped that our clients are two of the loveliest people, and we had a great team helping us create our vision. photo: Florence Charvin Our clients have a beautiful architecturally designed home and the kitchen was still in pretty great condition, even after 17 years. But they were ready for a re-fresh and more storage was on the wishlist. The original kitchen was a U-shape tucked into one end of the room with the dining tab ..read more

If you haven’t already, hop over to our Instagram page or our IGTV channel to watch Dael’s video with tips for creating a beautiful entrance into your home. To help illustrate some of Dael’s tips I’ve put together this blog post for you. An entrance is vital for creating a good first impression and giving your visitors a taste of what’s to come, and we also like it to have some practical solutions to make our lives easier. The most important piece of furniture in your entry is a console table. These are designed to be tall enough for you to drop your keys, mail etc as you walk in, and narrow ..read more

One Bed Three Ways | with Foxtrot Linen

There’s something about a freshly made bed. Climbing in after a long day and sinking down into beautiful linen sheets straight off the line. It’s one of life’s simple pleasures. To be honest, there are no hard and fast rules about how to make your bed, but we wanted to show you how we like to make ours, and show you three variations using the same bed and duvet and just swapping out the pillows and throw. We start with a classic white linen duvet cover. We always go one size bigger than the bed to ensure the duvet hangs down nicely and covers the mattress. This is a king size bed and a super ..read more

At the end of 2019 we finished a renovation project that we had spent a good part of the year working on. Our clients, a young family of seven (dad and the two boys not pictured below), live in a beautiful big historic home on Napier hill. The house had amazing bones and character but was definitely in need of an update. Nicki and Scott hired us initially to design their kitchen, and when we realised there needed to be a lot of structural work we called in our friends at Architecture HDT. photo: Florence Charvin As is common with houses of this era, there were a lot of smaller rooms, and the ..read more

One of the earliest client emails we received this year was back in January from Anneke Erasmus. She had been given the opportunity to move her business, Deluxe Beauty and Permanent Makeup, into much bigger premises, and although she was super excited, she was also feeling slightly overwhelmed about where to begin. photo: Julie Danes The space, which was formerly a cafe, was large and open with a high, sloping ceiling and a lot of dark wood. Anneke wanted to turn it into a calm and welcoming space for her clients with individual spaces for her client’s privacy. After visiting the space and t ..read more

Many years ago when I was a full-time interior blogger I had a series of posts called Favourite Finds. When you’re constantly searching and sourcing beautiful products it’s hard to not want to buy one of everything for yourself! So I started a private Pinterest “wish list” board where I save all the beautiful things I’m coveting, not just furniture and homeware, but favourite fashion pieces, makeup, jewellery, books, appliances even. Anytime I want to treat myself I go straight to this board. We’ve decided to bring back this blog series so we can share with you a few of the favourite things we ..read more

This blog post has been a long time in the making and, just a warning, it is quite a long post! The building process took a good five months (including a 3 week break by the builders over Christmas), so I took many, many progress photos. I also took a few videos to document the process, so if you haven’t followed along with us on our Instagram stories, go check them out after you’ve read the blog. It all began back in June 2017 when I contacted Tracey Thompson-Gray, a senior architect at Architecture HDT. With three teenage daughters we were fast out-growing our modest little three bedroom/on ..read more

September last year we received a short email requesting our help to refurbish a café. The email was from Julien and Sophie Debord, a French couple who had recently bought the well-known Napier café, Ujazi. When we met with them, their brief was to makeover the café, creating a warm and welcoming space and combine Napier’s Art Deco style with a hint of French tradition. photo: Florence Charvin While we began work on the design concept, we put Julien and Sophie in touch with our clever friend, Kate Merrifield Mason, of Ripe Design. Kate designed the logo and the beautiful menus for Café Tennys ..read more
