The shortlist for the Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction shortlist has been announced! Here is the link to the website for it. Out of the longlist of 16 books, I have finished 5 books and have started another 5. I have really enjoyed getting through the longlist and finding new non-fiction books that I may not have picked up if it hadn’t been for this prize. I’ve had a great time so far with the first ever Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction longlist and I wish I had another couple of weeks to finish some of these books before the shortlist.

Earth Hour is an hour in March when you do something to help the planet, even if it’s just turning out your lights. The website, with many ideas, is here but as this is a reading blog, I’m going to talk about the books you can read.
There are several Storygraph challenges (which have book ideas) available. Nature and the Environment, 2024 Nature Challenge, A Literary Adventure into Nature, 2024 Nature Reading Challenge. If you’re on Storygraph, the one thing you can do for nature in your hour is signing up for one of these challenges!

The announcement for the longlist for the Women’s Prize for Fiction happened on Tuesday 5th March. I can never predict what books are going to be on this. I do like watching the predictions list and recognised a few on this list from there. But I haven’t read any of them and I’m looking forward to getting to it!

In Defence of the Act by Effie Black, published by époque press

Something a little different this month because I’m not going to do an official TBR for this month! This month my focus is going to be on reading my overdue library books, finishing the books I’ve already started, and the longlists for both the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2024 and the Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction 2024.
Storygraph does reading challenges now which focuses on the prize so I can see my progress. Both the Non-Fiction and Fiction prizes are on there now and it definitely helps to have a list like that. Many of these books will be library holds though, so it very much depends on whe ..read more

The twitter is here, the website is here and the video explaining the storyline/quests is here. This is extremely late, the last two books took me a while to get through but I’m still trucking through with this readathon. Maybe I’ll even finish it before the mini-Clear Your Shit readathon in summer comes around!
Week 7 Wrap Up
Mini Boss Book hoarder: Read the book you’ve owned and kept unread the longest.
I think I’ve carried this book around for years on end when I got this as a kid. I used to love the Nancy Drew/Hardy boys books but I never managed to find all of them so reading them in or ..read more

Well, February didn’t exactly go to plan. Between the Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction longlist being announced this month, to the mountain of library books that were very urgently due, my TBR for this month went all over the place!

This year is the first year for the Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction! I knew it was happening this year but I didn’t realise that the longlist was being announced so soon (15th February)! This is the sister prize to the Women’s Prize for Fiction, which I have been following for the last three years.
Between my book buying limits and how expensive non-fiction books are, I don’t think I’ll be able to get all of the longlist read before the winner is announced, let alone before the shortlist is announced near the end of March.
That being said, there are many books which sound really interesting on ..read more

Well, January seemed to take a while but I know February will go by in a flash. This is the month of Polarthon, but it’s also the month with an extra day! I’ve got a busy month with a hen weekend away but I’m hoping to get through as many books this month as I did last month.
Her Majesty’s Royal Coven
This is a book that I’ve heard a lot of people read and enjoy but not absolutely adore. It’s a book about a coven of witches who work in the government to protect the country and the royal family. I got it out from the library and now it’s due back very soon.

This is a readathon focused around polar fantasy and wintery/polar books, but it also has a charitable element to it. I find I focus a lot more on this readathon when it has an actual effect on how much money I end up giving to the charity, Polar Bears International. Every snowball I collect (100 pages/bonus prompts) will be £1 for the charity. There are optional prompts
The 5th-11th February are the dates for this readathon. There are three teams which have their own bonus prompts and I have decided to join the artic fox team, and their bonus prompt is blue on the cover.

My 2023 was okay in terms of reading but I definitely want to be a little bit more organised this year. I liked the books I read last year (mostly), I enjoyed doing the reading challenges and I read a few books that had been on my TBR for a while. But it could always be better and I like being organised with everything!
At the end of 2023, I was keeping track of the series I had begun/finished/put down, but that isn’t something I particularly want to track going forward. I find it more stressful than anything when the whole series isn’t out and I tend to be much better at DNFing series than I ..read more
